Angels Game Thread - Win or Stay Home

Just As Evil Empire VS. Angels - NOON
Curt Schilling @ Jered WEAVER

Star-divide

The hopeful fan in me wants an Angels win today.

The cynical asshole in me wants Jered Weaver to plant a 98 MPH fastball into the wrist of David Ortiz, forever ruining the guiding force behind Big Papi's monstrous swing. Then, with Weaver tossed, I envision Ervin Santana entering the game simply to plant a fastball into the bone of Many Ramirez' elbow, permanently shattering the connection that allows the future Hall of Famer's torso's animal strength to be transferred to his quick forearms when attempting to drive a ball deep.

So which would be more satisfying? Hmmm...

Okay, okay, okay, Go Angels, sure, just win!

Love of the Game
I'm so glad to see that Angles fans truely do love the game for how it is played rather then seeking alternate routes to victory.  Oh, don't look now, there's some guy from the Patriots video taping Mike Scioscia's signals.

Look again dude
That B on your cap is really a "L" (as in "L"oser)because why else would a douchebag like you have nothing better to do than troll on our blog?

Mr. Education, get over yourself. The Halo's play the purest style of baseball in the league. We don't have fat fucks in our lineup that are completely one-dimensional. Sure, they can hit. However, they can't run the bases, can't field their position, and from what I hear, have really, really, bad breath.

Finally, nice pose the other night by one of your fat-fucked, one dimensional, overpaid "baseball player".  Good thing he hit it out so he only had to jog around the bases....

We will keep the oxygen handy just in case Big Poppy gets caught on base again with two out and a 3-2 count....

These are just a few things that remind me how much of a disgrace to the "pure" game of baseball you chowda-heads are.

Now piss-off.

by HaloMachismo on Oct 7, 2007 8:04 AM PDT up reply actions

Go away troll
Don't get high an mighty around here, fan of the most loathesome team in the game.  If the Angels did hit Ramirez or Ortiz, they would simply be playing the game the same way the Red Sox do.  You're scared of the only power threat in the Angel lineup?  So you just hit him and take him out of the game.

If the Angels retaliate you don't have the right to say a god damn thing.  More likely, the Angels will take the high road and just play baseball.  If your team goes to Cleveland may a swarm of insects descend on the field and selectively eat the flesh off the bones of anyone wearing a B on their caps or uniforms.

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

After that HR that Ortiz stared at before, nonchalantly, flipping his bat, and jogging slower than my Grandma with a busted hip, Weaver has every right to plunk him...

Maybe not the first time up, but if it gets to the 5th inning or so, and time for a reliever, I say it's on!

You Got It ALL Wrong Rev.
You talk about "retaliation" and "winning the game" as if they're mutually exclusive; that the Angels have to choose one or the other.

In fact, I think these things are more connected than you realize. Did you not read my diary? I guess not. Pitchers defending their hitters has been part of baseball since the Great Depression.

And for the record, I'm not advocating throwing at anyone's head or even attempting to end Big Papi's or Manram's career. It just needs to sting a little bit. In the middle of the back would be fine.....And the statement needs to be clear, so there is no question about it.

I'm going to the game today, and I have faith in Weaver and our players. Both should take care of business AND IN THE PROCESS both WIN THE GAME and turn the momentum of the series. NUFF SAID.

by Jack Frost on Oct 7, 2007 8:47 AM PDT up reply actions

Weaver doesn't get tossed...
he gets warned.  So does Schilling, who needs to pitch inside if he stands a chance today.

All these Red Sox fans who claim to know the game shouldn't have any problem digesting this one; it's well-deserved.

Again, dosing Ortiz and/or Ramirez isn't a white flag, it's a rallying cry.

Let's go Weaver...in the knees please.

BTW, the Angels seem to think the DelCarmen pitch was purposeful.  I think it's on.

If they would have been a little more
uncomfortable at the plate, maybe things would have been different.  They can't go hitting anyone now.

What a joke the Angels are with there lack of retaliation.  The ONLY team that does it that way.

Let people hit Vlad, let people admire their homers, just let people do whatever they want.

I just don't understand how any pitcher/team/coach/batboy could allow this fat fuck to pose at the plate after his HR with his arms out like he is flying....and not retaliate??!?

The first pitch to the next batter should have put him on his ass.  This is bullshit and we are playing like a bunch of PC pussies. We are losing because they are controlling the action....in our house!!!

from the Angels site
I think GA thought he was becoming a liability:

ANAHEIM -- Garret Anderson's ongoing problems with conjunctivitis in his right eye finally took him out of the lineup on Sunday after the second inning of Game 3 of the American League Division Series at Angel Stadium.

Anderson, who played through the first two games in Boston even though the eye was half-closed, lined out in his first at-bat to end the first inning against Curt Schilling.

Anderson went to the left-field line to field Mike Lowell's double in the top of the second inning and made a throw to third. After Jered Weaver pitched out of a two-on, none-out jam, Anderson came to the dugout and apparently concluded he could not see well enough to continue.

Because...
If we lose 2-0, then the pitchers pitched well enough to win and it hurts more that the pitching did it's job, but the offense didn't do theirs.

If we lose 9-0...then this loss is much easier to take seeing how they Angels didn't deserve to win, anyway.

Two hits...
...does not a series make.  Although it's hard to single out anyone when the ENTIRE team was shite.

by HuntKop on Oct 7, 2007 3:23 PM PDT reply actions

Somehow I doubt...
That Figgins is going to hit .330 next season. That OC is going to hit over .300.

Unless the Angels get a "big bat" [A-Rod].. I think the offense is going to revert back to it's previous form and struggle, since we got career years this season from our top of the order hitters.

I would trade OC this offseason since his value will never be as high as it is now. Sign A-Rod then put him at SS. I'd keep Figgins.

3B - Figgins
2B - Kendrick
RF - Vlad
SS - A-Rod
LF - Dunn
1B - Kotchman
DH - GA
CF - Matthews
C - Napoli

How's that for an offense?

I would do
evil, terrible things to get us this lineup.

Had he realized he couldn't see fly balls before the game, they could have DH'ed him and potentially started Rivera in LF.  Instead, Willits gets to have the honor of being the weakest-hitting cleanup hitter to step up to the plate in postseason history...

  • Trade OC, his value is at it's all time high[clears up $8 million also]
  • Sign A-Rod
  • Sign OR trade for Dunn incase the Reds pick up his option...then give Dunn an extension.
A lot of terrible contracts expire.. Colon's expires after this season. OC's could be literally removed since some team's would gladly take him off our hands. His value is at it's all time high and the SS market is weak!

GA's expires after next season, so...

By the way, didn't Arte say he would have no problem having a higher payroll IF the right player comes along, or something to that effect?

I'm kidding, of course. And if you took that seriously, well...

Oh, well.  Still waiting for the power hitting 3B. And a decent catcher.  A 1B with some pop.  A CF who can hit.

Heckuva job Stoneman.

1B with pop - check
a .469 slg out of one 1B, and a .479 slg out of another. the team does need someone who can hit the longball though. that person just needs to play 3B. greatest upgrade over current offensive player.

At least the Red Sox (of all people) had enough class to not wildly celebrate on our field in front our wonderful fans after beating a game but crippled team ... and in which every game really could have turned on a few plays.

0-3 looks bad on the scoreboard but we done well.

I am depressed, very depressed, but I have faith that Arte and Mike Scioscia will do something to turn this around in the future.
