SI: John Rocker and David Bell on Albany Juice

In addition to Jerry Hairston Junior, it looks like Gary Matthews Juicer has company in the checkout line of the HgH Mail Order Superstore.

According to SI (via Yahoo), John Rocker and David Bell received prescribed stuff via the U.S. Postal Service.

Either these guys all got crappy batches of the magic substances or each name dropped is further proof that the sheet don't work, really...

yup
I was thinking the same thing... how could Rocker be involved in anything related to the name Albany? not even a red sux fan has more hatred towards NY than him.

Selig,...
...the Owners and the Players Union know. Arte is an owner. He knows. His recent grandstanding is because he wants to get out of an idiotic contract. 50 Mil. to a mediocore, at best, GMJ. Juiced or not, what a brain fart. I wish he were in my fantasy league.

"We've made it clear to him that we want him to make a statement," Stoneman said. "We've encouraged him to get the facts out, get his side of the story out, whatever that story is. I understand that when lawyers get involved they generally tell you to be quiet about things. That doesn't address the public side of it."

"Our involvement now is to apply pressure to everybody who is involved and move this thing forward," Stoneman said. "We want to keep reminding people that we'd like this to be brought to a quick conclusion. ... It's a distraction right now. We don't want it to be a lengthy distraction."

"It's certainly not an ideal way to start a five-year relationship with a guy," Stoneman said.

Asked if he understood why Matthews' stance would make sense from his point of view, Stoneman said, "I'm worried about our point of view."

Message from a Clown
Dude 10 mil for a leadoff hitter and CF is not bad.  Are you for real don't kill the messenger?  What is your message?
No offense? Howie, Kotch and Napoli will change your mind.

by hauldog on Mar 7, 2007 10:10 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

were forgetting the facts
if i remember correctly didnt stoneman sell us on the idea of kent bottenfield, an 18 game winner, who prior to that only won 18 games in his career!

now his signing of Grey Hairs Matthews Sr.!!!!

stoneman needs to be fired!

My Message...
...is that Arte got horned. Ten mil. for GMJ is okay for one year, but five years is a joke...This won't be resolved by opening day 2008, 9 or 10-let alone this year. Dude this, putz.

by Ralph Zig Tyko on Mar 7, 2007 10:53 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is not Oaklnad
Money is not shit here, it is not a method whereby to measure the quality of a contract.

I agree with you abot the length, but GMJ's salary for Arte is like leaving an extra 10 percent ona  tip at a nice restaurant just to show off...

by Rev Halofan on Mar 7, 2007 1:10 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nice restaurant
that serves HGH hors d'oeuvres?

by Bilko 420 on Mar 7, 2007 1:22 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Money not the important part
Arte's obviously willing to spend the money on players he thinks will help the team. Rev, you're right, this is no small-market team.

The problem with the Matthews' signing was never the money. The problem is that the organization actually thinks Matthews is that valuable.

Let's hope this goes away soon.

by ligtreb on Mar 7, 2007 7:11 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Stopgap
I think they viewed Matthews short term contribution as potentially valuable and the long term costs as not prohibitive.

They felt they needed a CF and they got one.  I do not think they felt they signed a world beater.

No offense? Howie, Kotch and Napoli will change your mind.

by hauldog on Mar 7, 2007 7:15 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's...
...a decent player, I've no argument with that. It's just too long a contract. We need to win it all this and or next year or this will not be a pretty picture.

by Ralph Zig Tyko on Mar 7, 2007 8:38 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why?
The money will not affect our ability to compete
No offense? Howie, Kotch and Napoli will change your mind.

Really?...
...Arte haqs no budget?

by Ralph Zig Tyko on Mar 7, 2007 9:37 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not one that cares
about ten mil
No offense? Howie, Kotch and Napoli will change your mind.

hauldog...
...please see that they guarenteed 10 mil AFTER this year to a mediocre, 31 year old who just happened to pull a year out of his ass in his "walk" year. As an Halo apologist living in Northern California amongst buddies that bleed yellow beaks on their now ugly, synthetic caps, [produced at a fraction of the price as woolen ones and sold to the public for the same price], I'm not elated...nor is Arte.

by Ralph Zig Tyko on Mar 7, 2007 11:22 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I am aware
it is 10 per YEAR.  Still think it does not have an affect on the budget.  I would bet the Angels make a VERY LARGE contract offer to A rod if he opts out and if they do you can tell me all about those bugetary concerns Ralph.
No offense? Howie, Kotch and Napoli will change your mind.

Meant to say...
...they guarenteed 40 mil....

by Ralph Zig Tyko on Mar 7, 2007 11:23 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

big deal
If LAA spends too much, oops they spent too much, big deal.

If Oakland spends too muchm they are out of business.

Let THEM obsess about the money.

by Rev Halofan on Mar 7, 2007 11:56 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And we'll also get key contributrions
from Kendrick, Kotchman, Napoli, Santana, Quinlan, Izturis, for pennies.  Not to top-tier level talent from Lackey, Shields, K-Rod, Weaver, and half a season of Rivera for far, far, far less than they are worth on the open market.

Oh yeah, and we just dumped Erstad, Kennedy, Jeff Weaver, J.C. Romero, Esteban Yan, Steve Finley/Edgardo Alfonzo (whoever's contract we were actually paying last year), and all of their salaries off of our payroll.

Seeing as we have an owner who wants to spend-to-win, I think one bad contract (mind you, by comparison to the money tossed around this offseason, it's really not as bad as it would have been in years past) is more than capable of being absorbed.
