Hey Everybody, Let's... Whine About Injuries!!!

Some teams would be 162-0 without injuries to hear their cranky fanbase piss and moan about every little blister, hangnail and hangover their boys suffer.

The Angels have been playing amazing ball lately with quite a few concerns on the medical front and yet we have hardly had a spare moment amidst the victory dances to kick and scream and wail about the aches and pains.

Why aren't we steeped in misery?

Because our General Manager has stocked this team quite deep and these role-players keep us in games and winning while other clubs walk the waiver-wire tightrope and the MRI straight and narrow.

But we are hurting nonetheless and it could get ugly if some of these bruises don't get back into the pink soon.
Here is where it hurts...

Garret Anderson - Tender Hip - Day to Day
He hit a homerun Saturday and promptly tweaked his tender hip

Bartolo Colon - Strained triceps - Day to Day
Something is ailing the big guy and he has not seen the last of the 15 Day DL... mark my painfully obvious words!

Maicer Izturis - Hammy - Due Back Midweek...
Now that Hillenbrand is hitting a smidgen it is tough to justify bringing Maicer back - and there is no urgency with Figgins on a hit streak and Aybar warming the bench well.

Casey Kotchman - Bruised Elbow - Day to Day
This one could suck big time. I hope they are cautious and steady with the Might-y-Casey

Justin Speier - Montezuma's Revenge - Out Indefinitely
Thank God Bill Stoneman acquired Dustin Moseley a few years back.

Juan Rivera - Broken Leg - Due Back in July.
Anything we get from Johnny Rivers is gravy and it is fabulous to be in a position where we are not desperate for his return. He's a well-paid Nathan Haynes more likely than he is the answer to any big-bat needs.

Jered Weaver - Lower Back Tightness - Day to Day
If Oakland's #3 Starter was pulled after three innings because of back tightness, half of A.N. would be on suicide watch. For us it is maybe Cousin Joe from Salt Lake might be visiting, kids!

OH and...

Dallas McPherson - vertebrae - 60-Day DL
Still on the 40-Man Roster... ya never know !?!?!?!

There has also been time lost with Reggie Willits nursing a sore Hamstring and talk that Vlad Guerrero cannot play Righ Field in more than three straight games...

Add to all of this that Chone Figgins and Howie Kendrick have had to work out their swings while IN the lineup after lengthy DL stays and we should be blaming every scoreless half-inning on injuries. But when you are 16 games over .500 and have more insurance policies on your bench than an Allstate Agent in New Orleans, somehow none of those aches and pains make it onto the menu at the Bitter Fan Buffet...

I'm glad the Good Reverend...
acknowledges the mystical possibility that DMac could make it back to this team;  If not this year, probably next.

I believe all his injuries have been a direct result of his herniated disc....no fault of his own.....and that might be permanently fixed.  He's not a quitter;  he graduated from The Citadel, for......crying out loud!  You ain't a "wus" if you make it through there.

Stoneman must feel it's possible he still has value, if nothing more than a trade option, or he wouldn't still be on the 40-man roster.  And why, on earth, might he have any trade value, if he couldn't play for someone?  Our GM is making a career of picking up previously-injured, high-ceiling talent, cheap.  Also, I believe that Stoneman, Moreno, and Scioscia like to nurture the idea of "family" wherever possible, as long as it doesn't hurt the team.

I subscribe to the notion that his possible positive impact is TOO GREAT to chance casting him aside before we know for sure......and he's cheap.....for a long time.

Amen.

I'll start this by saying I'm an A's fan
I don't know how much of the whining you read is just shock at the sheer number of injuries that the team has had.  There have been 14 outfielders this season.  At one point Stewart was the only outfielder who was on the opening day roster who wasn't injuried.  And he was #5 on the depth chart to start the year.  If you think that going 14 deep and having problems is lack of depth I don't know what to say.  I know I'd be a worried Angels fan if the A's ever get healthy, it's going to be a good team if they do.  But I'll tell you I'm a worried A's fan because there are too many key players who just don't get healthy.  I just hope the A's can stay close enough come August, because it will be another great race if they do.

but what if
the guys who got hurt were the ones who were going to suck ass and the replacements fo the replaements are the really good players ... i would be worried if I were an A's fan that the idiot who put your team together ($8 million for Kendall) is getting lucky that his crappy Opening Day team is invisible on the DL!

Paper Mache
Any one that counts on Harden, and full season of Crosby and Bradley is just plain stupid.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U.

Leaving Kendall playing is inexcusable
But it looks like Suzuki has come up and I doubt they brought him up to sit on the bench for the rest of the year, having Kendall is like having a pitcher hit every game.

I don't think any A's fan expected Harden and Bradley healthy all season, hoped but didn't expect.

But Piazza (how does your DH go down for 2 months), Street, Duchscherer, Loaiza, Kielty, Kotsay, Johnson.  All DL'ed.

Chavez, Swisher, Buck have all been hurt but haven't gone on the DL, and still aren't 100%.

That's the most talented starter, top two bullpen arms, starting outfield, first, third, and DH.  Every position other than 2nd, short, and catcher (And oh how us A's fans wish the catcher would have been one of those to go down).  Of the preferred starting lineup.

It's not like the Angels haven't had injuries you did have to pick up Hillenbrand.

This is too easy
Our starting DH has missed ALL season (how does our DH go down for four months?).  Our starting 2B, 3B, and LF have all missed over a month on the DL.  Justin Speier is also on the DL.  Earlier this season, it was Jered Weaver.  And Bartolo Colon.  Kelvim Escobar has been disabled, too.  That's 3/5 of the rotation.  Oh yeah, and a former Minor League Player of the Year (we just don't count on him as much as you count on your previously injured players...)

That's the most talented starter (and former Cy Young), a ROY candidate, a current Cy Young candidate, one top bullpen arm etc etc.

I know I'd be a worried A's fan if the Angels got healthy, because they've already built a five game in early June lead with what they have...

Really.  He SUCKS.  4 homeruns this week withstanding.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U.

A's have had lucky injuries
Piazza - other than the homer off Frankie, he was looking old at the plate.  Piazza staying healthy means Jack Cust would still be mashing AAA pitching for the Padres.

Any pitching - No doubt Harden is a great pitcher if he can ever get on the field, but he could not improve this staff - you can't allow negative runs.  They have a better team ERA than they ever did with the big 3.

Kotsay injured hurts the A's like GA getting hurt hurts the Angels.  He's below average hitting and as a defender.  Bradley is a good player when healthy, but not likely better than what Buck has done.  If they were injury free, Travis Buck would have been in AAA all year.

Bullpen - Yeah it hurts losing Street and Duchsherer but so what if the replacements get the job done?  Let me know when they lose 5 games where they had leads in the 8th or later.

And for Swisher, Buck and Chavez not being 100% - Chavez is underacheiving but the other two certainly are not.  As a group they are hitting as well or better than anyone had a right to expect.

How I wish Loiaza had been healthy.  If he was healthy and giving up runs then maybe they would have left Chad Gaudin in mopup relief.

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

yeah
it's like if they never had any injuries none of these guys could make a name for themselves and get constant playing time.

Does anyone know what the hell
Speier's contracted?  Did he fly the same airline as that fucking lawyer from Atlanta?

His intestines are infected with some virus.
I once had a bacterial stomach infection and it was the most debilitating illness I have ever experienced. Even after the infection was eliminated it took me months to be fully back to normal.

Thanks for the update!
Too bad we're robbed of arguably the best setup man combo in baseball, instead having to deal with the runaway train that is Hector "one-year wonder" Carrasco.

Kotch
The Kotch injury was once again inflicted by the other teams opposing pitcher (i.e. Vlad and Howie). When he got hit I thought to myself that the Cardinals were getting fed up with how the Angels were putting a beating on them and their pitchers were told to throw inside. This is three players that have spent time on the bench due to being hit by a pitch. Are pitchers need to start sending messages to players on the other team when this happens.

maybe
it is our hitting coach insisting that our batters crowd the plate

Could be
It's true that Kothch does stand close to the plate. Maybe his hero G.A. taught him that.

more likely
his hitting coach Mickey Hatcher...
