Panther of the Game: Orlando Cabrera

This is Roy. Roy gave me tickets to tonight's game in the Diamond Club. Thanks, Roy!

The Angels are undefeated when I have tickets for the Diamond Club. Just posting this in case you want the team to really win.

I really want to argue for a double panther point

But, if we really have to pick, then it's Cabrera. Willits had his 1st 4-hit game, and it was sweet.

However, Cabrera had the walk-off AND the game would NEVER have gone to extra innings without his glove/arm at SS.

Jim Tracy

deserves Panther as much as anyone. Tracy's something of a moron, which became clear in his last year with the Dodgers.

Virtually any manager would have walked Cabrera and Vlad to set up a potential inning-ending DP with GMJr. at the plate (or potential strikeout). But no, he chose to pitch to one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball. The Angels were virtually guaranteed to win at that point; all OC had to do was put the ball in play. Anything to the outfield would have scored Figgins, as would many infield grounders. The way he's making contact, OC was not going to strike out.

Thus, Tracy pretty much handed the game to them at that point.

But yeah, OC for Panther, all the way.

I vote Reggie for Panther.

Lando's defense was stellar as usual, and I agree with everyone's point that we wouldn't have been in it if not for the glove, but my man Willits was once again the spark that fueled the comeback and was involved in every run scored that gave us the chance to pull it off.

His double in the 7th drives in Naps and it's 4-2. Wisely moves to 3rd on the throw. The crowd's going ape shit because there's no outs and speed demon on 3rd. Reggie then scores on OCab's single. 4-3. More apeshitty madness ensues.

A double in the 8th drives in Haynes, it's all tied up and I'm hugging strangers.

That's fucking Panther.

I'm with you. Definitely the clutch moments. That's something about Reggie... it never really seems to matter what the situation is, he gets his hits and is aggressive.

Then again, it doesn't take much to convert me. I've been a Reggie fan for a while haha

Hmm.

Fangraphs gives Willits a mind-blowing .493 to Cabby's .186. Is there something I'm missing? 4 hits is sweet, but cabby had 3 RBI and great defense...

Fangraphs doesn't measure defense well

It probably can't tell you that it was a really tough short-hop backhand OC made with two outs & a runner on third, etc. It's also not so good at measuring the Panther quotient of post-game interviews.

OC = panther

He had 3 RBI's (1 more than reggie), 3 hits (1 less than reggie), a big HR that really brought the crowd back into the game (I was there, it was pretty dull till he hit that HR) and then his defense that as usual kept Saunders from giving up even more runs. Willits was great and if you could give half a panther to each that would be the best scenario, but since there is only one panther I think OC's defense made him a little more important than reggie.

According to http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/ana/ballpark/index.jsp diamond club is "an upscale restaurant with outdoor seating on the field level behind home plate" so that isn't the same as where Evans was sitting. Evans was sitting in the Dugout MVP (http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/ana/ballpark/seating.jsp)

Panther=Dino Ebel

I know the hits by Cabrera and Willits assured the win but what about Ebel sending both Side Salad (rumbling and stumbling)and Haynes home. He could have held both runners and they might not have scored with the way we were leaving runners on base. Ebel's aggresive style has been a nice change from Roenicke's conservative style.

I was about to post the same thing, but you beat me to it. Watch the highlights of Willits 4 for 6 night on the Angels official website, and you get a chance to see Dino sending them home. Neither should have made it.
