Shea Hillenbrand DFA

Just heard on the radio show.

UPDATE: DFA is officially Friday, giving the Angels until the All Star Break to trade him.

Question #1: Who do you call up from the minor Leagues? Do we go with a 12 man Pitching stwaff? Jason Bulger maybe? Or is Frodo Izturis about to Hobbit his way back to Anaheim? Or does Terry Evans get a recall?

Question #2: Is there a team in the bigs that would want Katrina Hillenbrand - and what could we possibly get from them?

Shea Haters...
finally got their wish.  The LA Times has it on their website.

Here's your link
LAT link.  But it says he's going to be DFA'd on Friday, not today.  Why wait?
Ervin Santana To AAA! (But only for road games.)

it has to be on the day of a game
before play begins. Weird rule, but it is from a time when teams would be travelling and the telegraph operator might not get it right, thus affecting hte ten-day window...

I did not know that
Thanks for that tidbit!

Good bye Pony Rider
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

Indifferent
Not Glad to See Him Go, Not sure if We will miss him until I see what (if anything) we will get for him or what (if any) trades happen down the road to get us an impact bat.

Shea Haters, despite Shea's ineptness at the plate, the Halos are in first place in their division and have the best record in baseball.    The Angels were just swept at home by the Royals without Shea in the lineup.

The biggest point I think everyone of the Shea haters is missing is that our biggest concern with him when he was signed was his attitude problems, and those never panned out, so despite his hitting struggles, he never had any play either way into the Angels successes up to this point in the season.

Best Case Scenario is that the money which is freed up (if there can be any by this move), will be used to get us the player we need to get us over the hump.  And that whoever fills the role of DH who happens not to be a "Veteran" does not cost us in any important games because then all we will hear is "what if we still had....."

Here's the line on the guy that replaced Katrina
during the this series:

8ABs 2R 3H 1 Double 1HR 0BB 2RBI 0.875 SLG .375 Avg

Over the last week:

18ABs 2R 6H 3 Doubles 1HR 2BB 3RBI 0.667 SLG 0.333 Avg

Compare that to Katrina who for June was:

36ABs 7R 12H 0 Doubles 0HR 2BB 5RBI 0.333 SLG 0.333Avg

So now that Hillenbrand is DFA
What happens to the 6mil on his contract?

by BoulderBrian on Jun 27, 2007 5:16 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

If no other team wants him then Arte eats it
Maybe the Mets will pick him up and win the world series.

I don't think Evans can be recalled
since he only went down a few days ago.  (Minimum two weeks, IIRC.)

Wait a minute..........
We're wondering who's going to be recalled at the same time we hear a report that Speier, Anderson, and Izturis are all on rehab assignments in Rancho Cucamonga.

Forget who's coming!

WHO'S GOING?

It's been said that Speier won't return until after the All-Star break.

I don't think Anderson will, either, because........why?  They'll keep him on the DL until after.......Too many other floating parts.

Izturis........He, in my mind, is the most logical to return soon.....est. Aybar has done a great job in Istu's absense.  It's as if we didn't miss MiceT.  (Sorry about that, Maicir).  We have to show that he is healthy for the trade that ultimately...... is a forgone conclusion.

by wumbug on Jun 27, 2007 8:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Izzy is batting around 245 which is pretty much
where Aybar is batting.  I suppose Aybar is a better fielder but really, I'd rather see HGH in center with willits in left and Kendry DHing.

by melvintoast on Jun 27, 2007 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK. I don't have a problem with that.
I don't think it matters either way.  I just think management will decide that Iztu's time has come if somebody wants him due to:

Age......
Accomplishments.....
Whatever someone else wants/needs.....

He's proven himself, he's still young, and he's got to be attractive to somebody.

If someone wants Aybar instead, I don't think Stoneman will balk. Aybar's still a younger, less expensive, and less predictive question mark, but so far, he's encouraging.

Anyway, I predict Izturis comes back first.

Izturis is a Hobbit
lucky enough to play in a time where he didn't get stuck playing segregated Hobbit League Baseball...

by Rev Halofan on Jun 27, 2007 10:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

We could have put together a great
Hobbit infield.  Eckstein, Izturis, Figgins, Aybar.

I didn't get the Frodo ref either
but I thought it was funny as hell.  I am not really looking forward to GA's return.

Yeah, but...
you called it after it was clearly obvious that Scosc was putting just about anyone in the lineup in place of hillenbrand.  rspencer called this one at the beginning of May.  Hah!

the logical thing,
in my eyes, is now to make garret anderson the full time DH and and allow him to play left once or twice a week when vlad needs a rest, i dont care if he doesnt like it, hes a liability in left field and maybe that will keep him healthier

by Sorbo182 on Jun 28, 2007 1:13 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Whoooah......
Maybe that's logical to some, but to others it's devastating.

I'd be content, (when GA comes back) to let him watch and learn from the bench, letting Scioscia pick and choose spots where he can get some experience.

(Dear Lord, please forgive me.)

by wumbug on Jun 28, 2007 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i realize
that GA has been the heart and soul of the franchise for many years, but i think its about time he realizes that he just cannot hold up in the outfield anymore, if he only concentrated on hitting i think he may get back to batting .300 consistently but with a little less pop in his bat, just a suggestion though
