Casey Kotchman For President

How hot is Casey Kotchman? I'm a firm believer that the Kotch we've seen over the last 16 games is a better indication of his talent than the previous 39 games.

First 39 Games:
.254 BA
3 HR
19 RBI's
13 Runs
6 2B
12 K
12 BB

The last 16 games:
BA is up .055 to .309
4 HR
9 RBI's
8 Runs
6 2B
2 K
6 BB

Not to mention his work at 1st base. Did anyone else see the play where Howie threw the ball to Escobar covering 1st and Kotch ducked out of the way recognizing the play developing around him? Amazing baseball mind... he's going to be an Angel great for a loooooong time. I'm excited for him and the organization. GO ANGELS!!! Oh yeah, F ESPN and their biased outlook... bastards.

Kotchman = Todd Helton
translated down to sea level.  It's all good, and yeah, despite watching him between my fingers early in the season, this is the Kotchman we've anticipated all this time.

I would consider a sex change
so I could have his babies, but I don't want the mono.

Lemme get one thing cleared up here, for the record...

...we have a hitter in the lineup who draws walks, right?

You should change your username
to Casey's Stick of Death Anyone else noticed that even when Casey was "sucking" he walked as much as he struck out??? He must be Hatcher proof. I notice G.A. talking to young Casey in the dugout a lot. G.A. must be wondering what it's like to still have bat speed AND have a good eye at the plate. The only thing I see in common between the two is the lack of smiling. Let's keep it that way.

Cheers to that.
I was sooo effin' bummed last year when Kotch didn't get to play.  I'm glad he's justifying that bummeredness by kickin' so much ayaass.

Why not go back a little further
His last 23 games:

.437AVG (raising it from .224 to .309; 85 points)
5HRs
16RBIs
.512OBP
.761SLG
1.273OPS

Boner-iffic.

I love Kotch too
But he does all his damage against Righties. Against RHPs Casey is basically Justin Morneau/Mark Texeira, against LHPs he's.....Garret Anderson with plate discipline. To wit: Vs. RHPs: .320 Avg/.938 Ops Vs. LHPs: .240 Avg/.641 Ops Given the fact that all of our switch hitters with the exception of Willits struggle from the right side vs. the left, teams with strong LH SPs and good lefty relievers could give us fits come playoff time.

True
but he's barely seen them on the major league stage. Isn't it reasonable to let him see a few more?

I agree
49 career ABs is a small sample size for sure. He wouldn't be the only lefty slugger to be neutralized by LHPs if he remains this way. My guess is his OPS will eventually get to within 100 points of his RH OPS.

I'm excited about his numbers, but...
did you see how well-crushed the HR's he hit Monday and Tuesday against the Twins were?  Jeez!  That was some power.  Really exciting to see him cranking it up!
'86 never happened!

Yay!
I'm so happy we didn't sign some overpaid bum or trade for some fat slow loser to play 1b.

Casey will have his ups and downs, but players who play in the majors at age 21 and still don't strike out much will almost always develop into something nice.

I also fully expect his power to eventually exceed every expectation I have seen people guess.

I'd be very happy with a sea-level Todd Helton
which is about what I figure he'll end up being. .300/.400/.500 in his prime, with 25-30 HR annually. That line describes a middle-of-the-order slugger.

And by the way, Paul Konerko is hitting .235/.320/.403.  It didn't bother me too much to see the Angels "lose out" on him a couple seasons ago.  If anything, it helped drain White Sox coffers a bit, and the Angels have a very nice first baseman, thank you.

Ozzie factor
That's probably due to the fact that Ozzie's an asshole and he wants outa there!

I'm betting
it has more to do with the fact that he's playing out his age 31 season.

Or maybe
the fact he is a second half player.
I'm giving Figgins a big F U.

Maybe
"I'm a firm believer that the Kotch we've seen over the last 16 games is a better indication of his talent than the previous 39 games."

I don't know if I'd put it that way.  He's not as good as he's been the last 2-3 weeks, nobody is.  Nobody hits .437.

But his total season line, on pace for about .300-20-80, that's probably about how good he is.  And with a gold glove.

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

me too
those are very realistic numbers to project along w/frankie getting 75 saves. we have raised the bar and it's about time our boys crush every stat known to baseball, win 130 games a season and make every perfect personal move in the game. anything less is unacceptable. i heard from a very reliable source that hillenbrand will be moved straight up for miguel cabrera, it'll happen soon

In video games
(MLB 06 The Show)Casey topped out around .360-.370 but Vlad hit over .400 a few times.  Even in video games I rarely beat anyone as bad as they beat the Twins Monday.

Willits = panther
And damn close to his first ML dinger.  All kneel before the power of Ball Four!

which leads me to
Where does Willits come in for Angel MVP?  The obvious choice is Vlad.  But I will add that Willits patience has been contagious, so were does his presence rate as being the catalyst for this team?

Kotchman is playing like a stud.
Consider me a complete convert.

I love the guy. He signed a ball for my stepson Sunday afternoon before the game, which showed me a tremendous amount of class.

And he's a great two way player. He's like JT Snow out there with the glove, just nails.

I've never been more happy to be completely wrong about a guy. I just hated this guy last year, he disappointed me so much. It's great that he has shown so much skill already this season.

Great job.
