I missed the bonus question.
And since I'm socially unacceptable, since I dislike your beloved GM.

Bonus answer: none.

You are not socially unaccaptable
because you dislike Stoneman. You are socially unacceptable becuase you do not believe and Angel will hit a HR today.

You are a tool for anything short of admiration of the job Bill Stoneman has done. :0>

Matt Garza has faced some pretty good offenses (yankees, detroit) and given up 0 home runs so far this season in 3 starts.  His ERA is 0.00 and he has had 10 SO to 4 BB with a below 1 whip.  This coming from a 23 year old rookie.  Hopefully the angels can get some runs on the board early and let Saunders hold the lead.

Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

by Fan Since 1981 on Jul 22, 2007 11:05 AM PDT up reply actions

I think
We need to define what "too much" is.

Yes, toronto and texas would want a huge bounty in return for glaus and texiera.

Would the trades be of "equal value" on paper?  Probably not.

Would either possibly make us WS favorites, assuming our pitching doesn't keep falling apart (which I don't think it will)?  Yes.

I think there needs to be the realization that on paper its damn near impossible to make an "even" impace trade at the deadline.  Stoneman's goal needs to be to minimize the impact of such of a trade, while bringing someone home for us.

Our farm can absorb a loss, we're built for it.  I'm not saying we need to sell the farm.  But we can take a loss or two, if the reward is playoff success.

I'm not being negative.
I'm just not buying the Brandon Wood, Willits, Aybar kool-aid.

I'm glad Stoneman kept GA, Cabby, and Figgy vs. the panic happy who think that the left side should be a bunch of minor-leaguers.

As for Jose, he's not exactly Johnny Bench.  I'd take a pitching prospect over Jose's last 3 months in red.

by melvintoast on Jul 22, 2007 1:05 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't have a problem with the trade, either.
I'm sure it will be a wash.

I'd just like to see Stoneman do something.  I get a feeling on August 1st, I'll be saying "I just wish Stoneman did something"...

I'm not going to go into the detail but I've made
the claim that there hasn't been a major trade that lead to a title since Cabby was picked up by the BoSox in 2004.

Minnesota playing some great defense.

Hayne's hit goes through, that's 2 runs.

Nap's hit in the 1st goes into LF, its 2-3 runs.

Guys, it's not concrete. It doesn't feel like concrete. It feels like a bunch of rubber pellets. Because that's what it is. It is not carpet on concrete. It's like running on plastic grass planted in soft dirt.

I play soccer on Field Turf at school. It's softer than most ground, although, admittedly, the grass will burn you a bit on the knees.

by Carl Johnson on Jul 22, 2007 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions

from Wikipedia
During its early years of operation, the field at the Metrodome was surfaced with SuperTurf,[9]. The surface, also known as SporTurf, was very bouncy--so bouncy, in fact, that Billy Martin once protested a game after seeing a base hit that would normally be a pop single turn into a ground rule double.[7] Baseball and football players alike complained that it was too hard.

This surface was upgraded to Astroturf in 1987, and in 2004, the sports commission had a newer artificial surface, called FieldTurf, installed. FieldTurf is thought to be a closer approximation to natural grass than Astroturf in its softness, appearance, and feel.

_______

Nobody uses Astroturf anymore.

It was astroturf for nearly 20 years and 3 years ago  they upgraded it.

Through sheer luck we're just 3 runs ahead
We've 3 bases loaded ops where instead of a bases clearing double or a single we had line out line out   ground ball foul followed by sac fly.  A little luck would have made this a blow out.

Saunders
FANTASTIC effort and shows he DEFINITELY belongs.  it's kinda disturbing how it's been 2 years in a row that we've kept the correct solution for our starting rotation in AAA while we lose ball games.

Joe pitched the best i've seen him.

I think there was a durability issue.

Casey lifting the ball....
... is the best news of the game.

Not counting today, here's how Casey's season has swung back and forth:

first 9 games
.400/.500/.640

next 25
.179/.238/.308/

next 31
.450/.530/.750

next 19 (after Russell Martin)
.123/.174/.185

Would love to see another .400/.500./.600 stretch. Or better yet, some high-level consistency....

After that great win, only one thing remains:
BRING BACK GLAUS!!!  BRING BACK GLAUS!!!  I had flipped the channel to the Blue Jays game, with the score 2-0 in the fifth.  Troy stepped in against Felix and on the first pitch, just CRUSHED it to left-center.  It was an ELECTRIFYING moment.  The crowd was SO buzzed, and it was obvious that the Jays would win the game after the HR.  The Angels need this excitement.  They need Troy Glaus back where he belongs.

Glaus
When he was with the Angels, the only problem with Glaus was he could not hit a curve. Maybe he learned how by now.

by pasquale on Jul 22, 2007 3:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah... His WS MVP title was tainted because
he couldn't hit a curve.  cupie wanted to give it to GA.

by melvintoast on Jul 22, 2007 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Agree Since 81' ......
Glaus' presence in the middle of the order could be the difference between making the playoffs and actually DOING something in the playoffs.

His clutch bat would likely be huge in the playoffs  where you're likely to face fireballers like Verlander and Beckett. Glaus could always hit the really good fastball ( I'm talknig 94-96mph) and drive it a long way. He is also a very disciplined  hitter and rarely swings out of the zone. Most important he strikes fear into opposing pitchers and would be the perfect protection for Vladdy.

by Jack Frost on Jul 22, 2007 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

except he would not stay healthy
or he would get hurt just enough to be the DH and everyone else wouldget worn out down the stretch...
