LA Angels of Anaheim GAME 98/162 GAME THREAD

GAME THREAD: Choakland She-Wolffs of Fremont @ Angels - 7 PM
Chad Gaudin vs Bartolo COLON

Star-divide

I enjoy this rivalry.

Random Song Lyrics
Every dinner was crummy
nothing was on t.v.
I was ready to pack it up
our heads were so achey
You didn't mean anything to me

Wonder if Bartolo is looking over his shoulder at Dustin Moseley...

Post Your OPD Picks in this thread before Game time
Bonus OPD Guess: Name an Angels Pitcher besides Colon who will throw a pitch in this game.
Guessing "Nobody" means you think Bartolo will pitch a complete game or there will be a rainout or Iran will nuke the stadium prior to Bartolo's removal as pitcher of record.

But remember when it meant "more"?  When these games had an impact on the Division?  When if you lost a series to the A's in late July it probably meant you were either losing the lead in the division or falling even farther back?

That's what I'm talking about.  The Lookouts! are the A's of the past few years...

Colon's delivery was a frickin' mess
The bozos were right, his follow-through was fucked abbreviated.

It's sad; Bartolo's a warrior (remember his reluctance to come out of Game 5 in the '05 ALDS?), but the body just won't follow his commands, it seems.

Would you rather him be pitching or not?
We can live through these blitzes every five days or live through actually having a chance to win.

Take your pick.

Also, way to go GA for not really reaching for a ball you could have had. Way to go.

It's possible
It seems to me a lot more likely that Colon has a string of interrelated problems: his shoulder is throwing off his elbow or vice versa.  Throw into that (pun not really intended) the fact that he's well-known as indifferent to conditioning, and things start really looking awful.  Four year deal, and the Angels really only got 2005 and the second half of 2004 in which he pitched well.

Bad time to give up sniffing glue
Or something like that.

Looks like Dustin gets the hook.  And the Angels suddenly have problems in both the rotation (for the balance of the season) and the bullpen (for the balance of this series, at least).

The guys strikes less than a guy for every two innings, which is sucky awful.  He was always due for a regression.

Now, I think he's better than that.  But he's a mop-up guy, no more, no less, at this point.

Colon left the game with a right shoulder injury. I know this game isn't over yet, but what options do we have? Bootcheck and Moseley look like non-options after tonight. Santana needs more time. This game sucks
but at least we know it probably won't be as bad tomorrow. As long as Saunders stays consistent, we have at least four pitchers who give us a good chance to win with every start.

Does anyone think...
Anaheim will make a trade this year?? Didn't we have a decent July last year & Stonehead stood pat? This year, July is really a terrible month for us so far...hmmmmm

Well
He is talking awfully big in the papers
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

Adenhart is not ready
His K rate and K/BB ratio are subpar for the Texas League.  Now, he's very young for the league, and he's holding his own, so that's a good thing.  But he's not ready for the major leagues yet.

Sounds reasonable.
Moseley then? I'm still down with a four-man rotation, though. It's probably more optimal than having Moseley pitch every five days.

Spitballing ideas
  1.  We have room on the 40-man roster, so look at putting Bulger and/or Gwyn on it and bring them up to the 25-man.  Wood, Morales, and Haynes (yes, he'd have to pass through waivers) may all be expendable to the 25.
  2.  Let Moseley/Bootcheck tandem a couple of starts in the Colon spot (this is all assuming Bart goes on the DL) for a few weeks; say one starts, goes three innings or so, the other guy replaces him for a couple innings.  Having Bulger/Gwyn up (hell, maybe even Rich Thompson) helps the bullpen depth to allay these guys being on this schedule.
  3.  After a few weeks, evaluate where Ervin is, and bring him up if he's back on track.

I'm nervous to pursue these given how close
the division is, but it looks like the M's are losing their luster and have hopefully begun the Seattle Slide as I've predicted. If they start to fade I'm all for that plan.

who says GA won't hustle?
disregard the fact that the game is well out of reach.

Pretty Pathetic Effort
I finally think that this is the July that Stoneman pulls the trigger.  There is just something about how this team has gone limp at the plate this past month.  With all of the speculation that his been put on Stoneman and his decisions to Never trade, and with Arte's promises of "Big Bats", I think we are going to see a major move, one that will be controversial to say the least.  But it will be a major move for this organization and it's about time.

i disagree
i think it is becoming a little more clear that is might not be our year. with what teams are asking for, i.e.texas, i would hate to see a lot of young talent moved for one player. i don't think an addition of one guy is going to solve all of our problems.

Just Speculating
simply a gut feeling, but it won't be us giving up a ton of players for 1 proven player.  I think it is going to be a trade that will surprise us all and will more than likely involve 2 additional teams.    Just a hunch.
