Been in the country Oh much too long
Trying to be a farmer

Moseley to Start
From Matt Hurst's blog:

Dustin Moseley will start Sunday, followed by Kelvim Escobar and John Lackey Monday and Tuesday. Moseley has struggled lately, which he attributes to slight mechanical flaws and leaving the ball up in the zone more than he should.

Hamstring Injuries
I can only speak to my own experience when I pulled a hammy rounding third base about 10 years ago, but I was limping for about 2 weeks and wasn't 100% for about 4-5 weeks.

The good news is that he walked off under his own power, and he appeared to be flexing the knee okay -- with a severe pulled hamstring, you can't even flex the knee....

My theory states that you have to have rookies step up to win it all.  We have had a couple so far, but NOW is the time for Mathis to STEP IT UP AND TAKE CHARGE...just like Mike did to him last year!

by angelsrallymom on Jul 27, 2007 8:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I Blame Stoneman !!
I've been a supporter of the Stoneman in the past but it is getting harder and harder to maintain that position.

I, like most Angels fans want to have my cake and eat it too. In short, I want to win NOW and be a perennial contender (the second part is where Arte and Stoneman place their emphasis; the Jose Molina trade being evidence).

The Indians picking up Lofton was a good move for them the same way that letting Molina go was a bad move for us. One team picked up a veteran presence who will surely help in the clubhouse and in late and postseason games, while we lost such a presence.

If Napoli's injury turns out to be serious I think we should begin to chant for Stoneman's head!

by Jack Frost on Jul 27, 2007 8:03 PM PDT up reply actions

We traded Jose Molina, not Bengie
So I don't see how you can even say he had a veteran presence or would help in postseason games.

Stoneman is an #@&^&^&#@ idiot !!

Is anybody out there as pissed off as I am about this?

by Jack Frost on Jul 27, 2007 8:30 PM PDT up reply actions

You're nuts
Molina was a NOTHING backup catcher - Mathis is AT LEAST as good as him. An injured Napoli would have given us Mlina/Mathis ... well now an injured Napoli gives us Mthis and a sack of fucking split peas back there would be about as good as Jose Molina.

You are just blindly sentimental, jose Molina brought absolutely nothing to the team. Nothing, save a sentimental connection to 2002.

by Rev Halofan on Jul 27, 2007 9:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, Rev. I think it was just last season
when you extolled Jose Molina as a very good defensive catcher. I agree that he is very good defensively. And before you minimize the effects of his game calling skills take a look at Escobar's ERA in games Jose caught.

My displeasure with the trade has absolutely nothing to do with "sentimentality" or anything else about the 2002 team, just as my preference for Glaus over McPherson isn't about "sentimentality". While I am comfortable with Napoli  and Molina as a catching tandem  I am not comfortable with Naps and Mathis. And I'm certainly not comfortable with Mathis and any other scrub from double or triple A that would make up our catching duo if Naps misses any significant time. For someone who apparently takes alot of care to create great depth in the organization the trade of Molina was a terrible oversight by Stoneman.

I am not talking about potential or future mind you. I am talking about winning this season. I think our best change at winning it all in the near future will be this year or next as Vladdy's skills are almost certain to diminish somewhat (we are already witnessing a decline in the power numbers).

There is a reason the Yankees wanted Jose Molina. And despite your dislike of the franchise Brian Cashman does know something about baseball.

I'm not saying Stoneman doesn't know baseball but I am questioning his commitment to winning NOW compared to his focus on the longterm health of the franchise.

On the mend: Erick Aybar (right wrist surgery) continues to make progress, Scioscia said. Howie Kendrick (fractured left ring finger) will be re-evaluated next week.

Aybar, out since July 1, has missed 19 games. Kendrick twice has had his season interrupted by broken fingers on his left hand, missing a total of 44 games.

Reliever Chris Resop (right triceps tendinitis) has been out since July 13 and Colon (right elbow irritation) since July 24. Third baseman Dallas McPherson (lower back surgery) is expected to miss the rest of the season, with outfielder Juan Rivera (broken lower left leg) hoping to rejoin the Angels for the final month or so of the season. Rivera is running 90-foot intervals, taking batting practice and throwing long toss.
