Panther
Vlad

honourable mention Panther: Ervin Santana, our new (hopefully) No. 5 starter.

Don't call me Desmond

That was simultaneously
among the most anguishing and most triumphant of victories.

LET'S GO HALOS!

Light Up That Halo! ...and tell Clutch to chill!

Ervin
Not his fault Scioscia can't use a bullpen

Great comeback
Let's hope this is a game that we look back on in October as a key win that starts the run to the World Series. I agree with Vlad as panther. Hats off to Ervin, let's hope his dominance is a sign of things to come.

I honestly feel pretty damn good
with a Escobar, Lackey, Weaver, Saunders, Santana rotation.

Then come playoffs put sanatana in the bullpen and call him in for shutdown innings. Money.

a great bounceback
Except for perhaps our beloved angelsrallymom, we all pretty much threw in the towel after the Abominable 8th. This comeback showed the Panther that this team has, and that's why the Angels are a dangerous team going into the stretch.

Biggest rollercoaster game of the year
That was insane!  I had to get off the computer and actually watch the bottom of the 9th.  Gameday delay was driving me crazy.
Biggest choke and biggest comeback, all wrapped up in one game.

Co-Panthers: Santana and Vlad
Co-BOTG: Sosh and Shields

Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

2 and 1 in the past 27+ hours
that is what champion teams are made of

by eyespy on Aug 17, 2007 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

great point by Mota
he pointed out that Willits' at-bat was important in that he made Gagne throw alot of pitches.

Gagne has looked horrible for Boston. Good.

by yeswecan on Aug 17, 2007 7:44 PM PDT reply actions

Nope....sorry, it was Ervin
Vlad should never have had to come up big in the 9th.  He had a good game, but tell me ONE person on here (OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER) that "expected" Ervin to do anything but get ROCKED!

I VOTE SANTANA!

Stop swinging at balls out of the zone!

by K3YEROUT on Aug 17, 2007 7:45 PM PDT reply actions

Funny, I had it backwards
We were down 6-1 early in the first game and I declared we could come back, and we didn't.

When we blew the lead 5-4 in the 8th in the second game, I gave up.

Figures.

In any case, sweet game.  Nice comeback.

Willits for ROY

Typical F-ing ESPN
Just watched Baseball Tonight ... during the highlights of the 1st game, they talked about how "Rickie" Willits was having trouble in center field, and how Fenway is a House of Horrors for Lackey (and the Sawks in general are Horrors for Lackey)

... Second game highlights, no shots of Santana pitching at all. They cut straight to Frankie blowing it in the eighth. Then, it was all about how "Gagne imploded" ... blah blah blah. They showed Vlad's gapper that brought in the winning runs but didn't say anything about it.

And of course, they had to show the Youkilis foul tip and then whine about how "the Sawks were a couple of outs away from a perfect day" and "Gagne will get it together."

That was one of the most incredible games I've seen in a long time, but if you watched Baseball Tonight, there was only 1 team on the field.

Fucking pricks.

Gagne
Another former Dodger one time star pitcher grossly over rated.

Figured as much
missed it but the highlights for Sportscenter are dog killers and Kobe

On a lighter note
Cy Webb threw his third straight shutout for the D'Backs. Flipping amazing.

Now for the BIG event of the day
High School Musical 2

(who else has tween daughters?)

I caught a break. 2 sons only.
Now college age. but I do recall the phenomenon that was Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles.

So there's a worry for you. You will never get High School Musical out of your head!

Panther = Santana
That start was just nails. And Scioscia's throwing him into a nearly-unwinnable situation, in which Santana should have won, might end up being worth 20 bad Scioscia decisions in the future; maybe even 100.

Santana
Clearly, panther.

i just went out and bought some baby panthers tonight in honour/honor of Magic's performance.

Are you sure you don't want to change your vote?

really?
If so, 1-3 in the night game, he gets the Mike and the Mechanics award for doing his JOB.

by cupie on Aug 17, 2007 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions

I LOVE IT!
Santana was a lion out there tonight. Standing on that mound, he was King of the Jungle. Very nice imagery.

This is definitely one of those games I will never forget.

. . .and the young lions will lock horns!

p.u. - hope those are not your season seats - got a neckache yet?

by Rev Halofan on Aug 17, 2007 11:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Never gave up - Never surrendered
Oddly enough, I always felt the Angels would come back and win that game.

I was yelling for Soch to take out Shields - because if they were gonna lose the game, I wanted the best reliever to do it, not Shields.

The subs he made in the 9th inning - Kotch for Budde, and Aybar for Kotch - were nails.
And when I saw GAME OVER GAG-ne in there, that's when I KNEW it was on.

How did I not fear? I looked at the part of the lineup the Halos (I want to type WE, but I don't play for them) had coming up. Down by a run, I want Willits, (Kotchman), and 1-2-3 coming up.
This is a statement game that the Angels aren't cursed by Baws-ton and can-and-will kick some butt in the Oct.

"And the Anaheim Angels are the Champions of Baseball!"

by Grichfan on Aug 18, 2007 9:28 AM PDT reply actions

I vote Santana
He was filthy.  I really was convinced that I would be lucky enough to see a perfect game while at Fenway, and be on the right side of it.

Too bad that bitch Drew had to get a broken bat single.

Three ex Dodgers three losers.  Weird.

I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.
