Yeah. Frankie really chewed him out for giving
away the pitches due to the way he was crouching.  I was just glad that he was able to successfully handle the breaking pitches from Frankie and Oliver.

I didn't see
the 9th inning.  Could you explain in a bit more detail what Budde was doing, and why Frankie was upset?  By "giving away," do you mean he wasn't framing the corners well?

by jjackflash on Aug 21, 2007 10:55 AM PDT up reply actions

His Stance
His wide base (feet spread really apart) on breaking balls was giving them away.  He was also giving away the location.

Frankie was jestering like the Yankee hitters were peaking.

Buddha Budde ...
... is Ryan Budde's nickname here in Nepal!  I will take a clockwise stroll around the stupa in Boudhanath in honor of Budde's first major league rbi--a game winning walk-off double to spank the Yanks!

Panther
The first game of the year where I would give the panther to the entire team. This was Angels baseball at its best, Good defense-timely hitting and even with the 6 runs for the Yankees it was a well pitched game by all except for Bootcheck. I say the Team gets a Panther vote

by Sinatrasratpack on Aug 20, 2007 10:58 PM PDT reply actions

Well, THAT sure was satisfying!

Very clutch for Budde
there is a lot of praise to go around...Mathis for his bases clearing double.  Figgy/OC for the big 7th.  Frankie and Oliver shutting the Yankees down late.  Great Game - but would have rather not had the Speier 8th...
What? Figgins is playing better? Well, I still don't like him.

SportsCenter highlights
Highlight #1: Alex Rodriguez 2-run HR
Highlight #2: Jorge Posada 2-run HR
Highlight #3: Betemit's great play at first and gunning of GMJ at home
Highlight #4: Willits' check-swing strikeout
Highlight #5: GMJ grounding out to end the 9th
Highlight #6: Budde's game-winning hit

You would have thought the Yankees won by the way they were showing highlights.

Because I was too engrossed in the game.

I ALMOST went to the game, and didn't because I had to pick one of three based on $$$, and figured I'd rather catch an Escobar or Lackey start.  Argh.

Awesome ending to a close, nail-biter.

Statheads F-bomb count
49 F-bombs out of 583 total comments. (One F-bomb every 11.897 comments, not counting acronym F-bombs like WTF).

Not too bad actually, considering how tense that game was. I think it was worse in the Red Sox series ... we must not hate the Bombers as much.

Did you count the F-bombs in the collapsed

Without bothering to sift through ALL of those, I see that I had 5 of those, including a variation or two (fucking).

I'm proud of myself.

I think I either had an 0-fer or just 1 f-bomb. Not too bad for me, I was on fire in the Sox series.

two things from espn
Maybe it's still to early, but why the hell is the espn coverage of the game so annoyingly scant?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270820103

The Yankees lose, and so nobody even puts in the minimum of effort. The picture is even of that smarmy ass A-Rod.

Also, does anyone have insider access and can read this article:

http://tinyurl.com/yp5dqg

is it any good? What does Keith Law think are the angels weaknesses and strengths? I can hazard a guess: "No big bat to follow vladdy", and "vladdy." Screw ESPN.

It's funny to see that the only 2 wins NYY
has against us this season are when we pitched Colon and Santana against them.

Yeah, that's not a coincidence.

Budde-licious
cupie and i were at the game, and we sat next to reggiebullits, which was awesome. good to see some HH representation at the stadium.

the angels had to win this game. they had so many opportunities to put it away, only to squander each lead. VERY panther of Budde to pull out another clutch hit.

the atmosphere was electric, with angel fans getting on their feet in the SECOND INNING cheering the team on. very cool.

by yeswecan on Aug 21, 2007 12:38 AM PDT reply actions

Such a fun, but weird time tonight.
I was sitting in 322 tonight. The game made me sick to my stomach, it was an unbelievable roller coaster ride of a game, and our team really showed some stones tonight, getting the job done.

But I gotta get something off my chest, that's still bothering me a couple hours after leaving the ballpark.

As I said, I sat in 322. And I was surrounded, SURROUNDED, by fucking Yankee fans. I was about 1 of half a dozen in the section pulling for the home team.

Now that I think on it, THAT's what made me sick to my stomach. That I was sitting there, and most of the people there were doing the "LET's Go Yankees!" chant. The idiots sitting next to me didn't even know who Reggie Willits was. I asked them what they do for a living back in the Bronx, just for a fucking laugh. They never lived there, and they were from Washington D.C., but of course they're big Yankee fans. Fuckers.

When we got that game winning hit, just when the noise finally started to calm down a little, it really was fantastic, when most everyone finally shut the fuck up and i went ahead and yelled out:

Yankees Lose! TTTTHHHHEEEEEE Yankees Lose!!! Dipshits.

Tonight was a huge win for us, it was a playoff atmosphere. It's just too damn bad that most of our fucking season ticket holders weren't there to see the goddamn thing. Fans: show some stones for christsakes! Don't sell your fucking Yankee tickets to the goddamn Yankee fans!

Have the same kind of heart that our players have! WE gotta be there for the guys, and we'll get it done together!

by goodvibe61 on Aug 21, 2007 12:40 AM PDT reply actions

goodvibe61,
Honey, if you were so sick to your stomach you should have just turned around and calmly puked all over some of those mean Yankee fans. Free souvenir for them to take home. ha, ha.

by 44FAN on Aug 21, 2007 12:45 AM PDT up reply actions

Judging by how often
the "Let's go Yankees!" chant got shouted down and how often the "Yankees suck!" chants were heard on T.V., I'd say your section wasn't entirely indicative of the stadium as a whole.

Thank God.

http://kotchatthebat.livejournal.com/

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 21, 2007 12:50 AM PDT up reply actions

I understand your frustration
but not all of us have the money to afford those 322 tickets. OSme of us need to sell our tickets to be able to pay for next years tickets.
Also when you sell your tickets you have no idea whose buying them, will I sell them to a guy with the screen name 'Jetrlvr' No I'll try not to. But Yankee fans are wiling to pay the most for the tickets and so thats who I sell to. I am a capitalist, as long as there money is green I don't care what jersey they bring to the game.
