Panther of the Game: Dustin Moseley

Maybe it was the bad karma of giving a devastated Ervin Santana a mocking standing Ovation.

Maybe it was the bad karma for letting Courtney Love ruin Kurt Cobain.

Maybe it was the bad karma for letting Starbucks ruin American entrepeneurship.

Maybe it was the bad karma for nurturing Bill Gates, Paul Allen and their MS-DOS.

Maybe it was the bad karma for turning a poor misunderstood Sasquatch into a hick tourist attraction renamed Bigfoot.

Maybe it was the bad karma for not making ritual human sacrifices regularly to Mt. Saint Helens.

Whatever the hell it was, Seattle, it squeezed the oxygen out of another moment where you thought for once you were going to get what you wanted.

Not this time, yet again.

I feel bad for my family, good for Angels

My family who went to the game in Seattle acknowledged that the fans were nowhere near as involved in the game as they should have been.

Also, they believed there were a record number of calls blown. I explained to them that there were a few blown calls, but the vast majority were too close to call, and went the Angel's way because of the idiocy of Jeff Weaver's early body language, despite owning a 5-0 lead.

Really for them, it's unforgivable for Jeff to let the Angel's back in that game the way he did.

Angels won this, but only after the M's refused to put it away for good.

Every last one of those guys pulled themselves up

What happened to Santana?

Is this the same guy who stepped in for an injured Colon in the final game of the 2005 ALDS against the Yankees and beat them? He looks like a completely different pitcher; his confidence is gone. His fastballs are down the middle, and his slider has lost its bite.

His 2007 is finished as far as being in the starting rotation.

I most definitely agree with this. While I think tonight's victory has gone a long way towards putting the Mariners back in their place, there is still a lot of baseball left.

Tough call for panther

Moseley was absolutely PHENOMENAL this game, and really allowed us the time to get back into it.

However...

Vlad was Vlad, 4 for 5, with 3 RBI. Then again, GMJ and Pantherales really got it started...

so...

Moseley it is, from an individual contribution standpoint.

What a great win tonight!

Gritty. Gutty. We showed lots of stones tonight. It seemed like Mosely was calm personfied coming into the ugly situation Santana left him with. He was awesome tonight. He did exactly what he needed to do, and the bats got us right back in it.

A huge win. It's not over or anything like that, far from it, but it's probably the biggest win of the year to this point.

A great night.

And I do feel for them

Their managing was VERY poor tonight.

I actually thought, upon seeing Sean White in, that the intention was to pitch Vlad high and tight, and hit him in the hands if at all possible. White had done it before, and it wouldn't have hurt the M's bullpen much to do so if a suspension were the result.

That said, I hope that's not the case, as Scoscia has made it clear we would not do the same.

Regardless, I hope Seattle takes the wild card, simply to prove the dominance of the AL Western division for years to come. The Central and West will be strong for years, and it will take a lot of $$$ to keep Boston and the Skanks from being out of it for a few years.

I'm tired of Santana. Leave him in Utah. I never want to see him in an Angels uniform. .1 IP and 5 ER?!?!?! The man is a major league pitcher on a great team who gets paid to throw a ball. The man is a walking tampon. I like him as a player but I'm tired of him ruining games. If he is soo happy in Utah then leave him there for the rest of his career. Its not like he is in NYC and the guy is under huge pressure, Santana needs to quit being a baby.

When teams are ready for Moseley, they seem prepared. However, the Mariners didn't see Moseley coming and had no clue what they were doing against him.

Another point to be gained from this win. I've said it in the past week, and I'm surprised to be saying it, but...

As soon as Kotch is back, Kendry is the DH. Period, until he shows he doesn't deserve it anymore. On days GA needs the DH, Willits takes LF. On days Vlad needs DH, Kendry takes RF. Apart from that, Kendry should be in the lineup until he stops hitting at the rediculous pace he it currently.

I'm not a farm hand homer but Kowbell is the real deal. I think we saw some of that last year. Consistency, like it is for any talented rookie, is the main obstacle.

I don't think we'll see wood in as a regular until at least 2009

Every game I get more impressed

with Jeff Mathis. The guy is looking like a stud. He always seems to do something to help the team, if it's a ball in the dirt he blocks, get a key hit, whatever. He is contributing more than what shows up in the box score and I am impressed. When Naps gets back, we are going to have one hell of a catching duo. Gonna be tough for Sosh to fill out the lineup card and try to keep everyone happy, because Mathis has earned his spot. Great move to trade Molina.

Agreed re: Mathis

For a guy hitting .200, Mathis sure is impressing. There haven't been a lot of hits, but those he's had have been big. Plus, defensively he's been a standout.

He's only gonna get better--I think we'll still see Math 2-3 times a week when Naps returns (I don't see Sciosc stunting Mathis' development with once-a-week duty).

Depth

we are truly seeing it on display now and it's awesome. Jeff freakin' Mathis? this guy was left for dead and Stoneman stuck with him. then we traded JMo away and the kid has been solid (that gun down of ichiro may have taken his confidence up even more). Kowbell? what more needs to be said? he's in the show and proving his worth. Maicer? depth, depth, depth....such a luxury.
