Do the Angels even CARE about their Fans?

Noxious windbag Kevin Kennedy, posing as a baseball analyst on the postgame Angels Live is asked about the Angel game. This frontrunning fool goes on an exhaustive discussion of the Yankees coming on strong to the Red Sox and this being a motivating factor to Boston. Rambles on and on about the two teams that ESPN already covers for the nation - why does the Angels broadcast have to fixate on the situations facing these oversaturated franchises?

Of course, Never-Missed-A-Buffet Kennedy could have been taking his cues from the absolute fawning three-hour tribute to the Red Sox that was the Angels broadcast tonight, Steve Physioc recounting Boston's 2004 season triumph so flawlesssly I expected him to also do a ticket promo for 2008 Fenway Season Seat Holder deposits.

All of this on a day when the Angels corporate management went faceless on its fans and tried to sweep the voluminous Angel Stadium rat turds under the carpet.

Is it past time Arte Moreno move to Southern California to crack the whip on his cronies testing the limits of fan loyalty? Of course it is. Get the hell out of Phoenix, Arte, your home here has a vermnin infestation from top to bottom. Oh and there are rats outside of the management suites as well...

Steve Physioc
never failed to recount negatives when the halos were batting or pitching but glorified the sox team - top to bottom.  He brings negative energy to our team.

Thank You
rex often followed the praise toward Boston of Physioc, but tonight Steve was a one man cheering committee for BAASTIN...

fucking annoying
the overblown deference and respect given to the red sox is ridiculous. granted, they are a great team this year, but when they're playing well they receive a silly amount of praise.

do we hear this when the Tigers (or any other team besides the Yankers) go on a tear in a good season? hell no.

dear angels broadcasters,
if you don't have enough things to say about the angels, pull out your check stub and remind yourself of who wrote it. and try not to use the angels broadcast as a forum to interview for the red sox job.
sincerely,
wayne

That's not correct
When the Angels were on their May/June tear they were being described in the national media as the best team in baseball.

So the answer to your question would be:  HELL YES!!

by SactoFan on Aug 7, 2007 2:26 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

For better or for worse.
Phys and Rex bad announcers? An embarrassing situation without a face to blame? Arte has been great, but he's in the wrong here. Maybe this is the reason the beer was so cheap...

Seriously
I could barely stand to listen to the broadcast tonight ... I kept thinking "who are these guys rooting for?!"  It's ridiculous the fawning over these Red Sox get.  Yes, they're a great team.  Yes, there's nothing wrong with praising them.  But to the point where it sounds like you like them more than your OWN TEAM?  That's a little ridiculous.  Arte has some major PR to do (since the REAL PR guy isn't going to do it for him) in the next couple of days - and he better do it quick - the fans (at least the real ones) aren't going to put up with this crap for long.

it's a "W" tonight
Light up the Halo - i don't give a rat's ass about anything else.

and i think "MUTE" was designed specifically for PhysnHud. use it.

btw, the last road trip was nice - all A's and Twins announcers on MLB.TV.

as for where Arte spend his $$$ ....
i'd rather it be on a ballplayer than an exterminator and clean up crew.
just win, baby.

and i think Arte spends his summers in Newport - way too hot here in Phoenix.

but if you want nice new clean ballparks .....
and that's the priority and what "caring" means, i hear Pittsburgh (44-64), Cincinnati (47-64), and SF (48-62) all have nice new cribs......

Majorly Panther Rev
Tonight was an embarrassment to listen to.  The clincher was when Physioc emphatically yelled "Ohhhhh" after watching the near home run of (Crisp? or whoeverthehellitwas) go foul at the last moment.  It was almost as if he wanted to see it go fair and was taken aback when it did not do so.  I placed some bets with my dad before the game on how long it would take Physioc to mention:
  1. The 2004 World Series (Bonus points if he segues from mentioning Cabrera)
  2. The Bloody Muther Fucking Sock
  3. The phrase "Manny being Manny" (didn't get much of a chance tonight)
  4. The fact that Manny is the only other active player besides Vlad with 8 (?) consecutive .300 +, 25 HR, 100 RBI seasons. (again, didn't get much of a chance, but I am sure it will show up this series).
  5. That Pedroia and Willits are ROY candidates.
Needless to say, 3/5 the were taken care of in the first inning alone.

Doug Decinces...
while peddling his promotion at Strawberry Farms golf course, mentioned "manny being manny."  Nice.  Doug nearly took over the broadcast (maybe he knew that the Rex and Hud show became the "blow the Sox show...?).

Physioc
Was at the game tonight (concession lines a little shorter than usual) but I can just imagine what Physioc was like on the broadcast.  I absolutely can not stand him.  Rory for TV in '08.

This might actually be a good thing
If this issue gets more and more press, the Angels will more than likely have to keep their seat prices at the same rate for next season or better yet- lower the prices.

I myself don't really care about the rat problem. I'd rather listen to Physioc and Hud at home where I have my own bathroom, couch, and refrigerator, not worrying about idiot "fans" going in and out of my aisle or standing up during an important play rather than sit in the parking lot for half an hour and then drive 30 more minutes to get home. I don't have rats at home and I don't charge myself admission to watch the games on TV nor the admission to park my ass on my couch.

But to answer your question Rev. I'm pretty sure the Angels care about their fans. The Moreno administration has shown their care by lowering beer prices, acquiring big name free agents, negotiating better TV deals to get more games in our area covered, have developed one of the best farms in all of baseball, and produced what will be 4 straight winning seasons. As another poster stated, I'd rather they dump the money on acquiring better talent than spending the extra money on rat poison.

We had a mouse at 2nd last night
Maicer "Iam not a rat' Izturis played a fine
second base last night. And put us ahead for good
with his HomeRun.Iam a season ticket holder
and yes I do eat at the stadium.Usually its
Panda Express. And yes thats a plug.I am sure that
Arte is going to correct this problem. But I have always questioned the practice of waiting to the
next day to clean the stadium.Maybe because Arte
would have a higher light bill if the cleaning was done at night.TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM ARTE!!
Its causing a public relations nightmare.Instead
of focusing on the team, the media ,local and national are reporting this everywhere.Or maybe
thats what you want.NOT to focus on the team
NOT making any trades at the deadline or the
vermin problem.

The Devil is in the datails
Sure, Rev, the Angels management cares about its fans. But there's no doubt they dropped the ball bigtime on the rat problem. As funny as the jokes have been, at heart it's really no laughing matter, given the degree of the infestation. Rats can be a serious health hazard. They carry disease, and their droppings, if allowed to dry, can become airborne particles that are very effective pathogen delivery systems.

It seems as if the primary fault lies with Anaheim and Aramark, but the team management has surely been aware of it, and it's shameful--and to my mind inexplicable--that they've let it reach crisis proportions. Anyone who's ever worked in food service knows you don't leave food waste out overnight, ever.

Independent of anything else Arte has done for us fans, he deserves to get it with both barrels from us on this matter. For my part, until Angels management deals with this forthrightly and decisively, I'm not spending one dime on food there.

Beyond this, I really love the "Rally Rat" idea. I wonder where we might find some Beanie Baby rats or something similar to wave during rallies? I mean, that would be a great way for the Halos Heaven faithful to assert themselves.

Stoopnocracy is peachy

Exactly!
My last post on this topic: Let's consider Rev's beloved Fresca restaurant: What if, at the end of the night, they decided NOT to clear the tables, do the dishes, or clean the kitchen. Just left the mess until the morning crew arrived. Who would approve such an obviously dangerous and absurd policy? Well, someone at the Big A did approve just such a policy and that person should be held accountable!

I could be worng
but I am under the impression that the city and not the Angels manage the ballpark.

That being said to know of the violations and not demand changes regardless of who was managing it is out of line.

I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

According to the Anaheim City mgr
Arte is responsible.
City Of Anaheim Statement Regarding Stadium Cleanliness

CONTACT: John James Nicoletti, 714.765.5060

ANAHEIM, CA - (August 6, 2007) -

The following statement can be attributed to David M. Morgan, City Manager:

"Representatives of the City of Anaheim management team have been in contact with the staff of Angels Baseball regarding the recently publicized issues concerning the vermin and pest violations at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Angels Baseball is contracted to maintain Angel Stadium as part of their lease agreement with the City. The guest experience is of paramount importance to the City of Anaheim and Angels Baseball and these recent violations are of serious concern to both of us.

Anaheim takes tremendous pride in our public facilities. We believe these feelings are shared by Angels Baseball management, who manage the stadium and maintain its cleanliness on behalf of the fans and the people of Anaheim. Our expectations are that Angels Baseball will immediately address these issues."

The Anaheim City Council will receive a briefing on this issue as part of their closed session agenda at tomorrow's regularly-scheduled City Council meeting.

Man, miss a few days
and it's practically impossible to catch up...

Two observations: Moreno has a "second home" in La Jolla; Stoney has zero problem with eating at the stadium.

Oh yeah, so where's Angel Hawker?
