Vlad's elbow still hurting
Vladimir Guerrero said his elbow is still causing him problems 4 1/2 months after he was limited to DH duties in the postseason.
Guerrero said in early December that he was nearly fully recovered from what was being called triceps tendinitis. However, it seems to no longer be the case. Even though it continues to bother him, Guerrero said he doesn't want to be a part-time DH this year. "No, no," Guerrero said. "I'm a right fielder."
Nice job on being selfish and not wanting to DH too, Vlad.

I know it's only February .. But
In fact, IMO, he's the ONLY guy on the squad who gets a free pass.
Just my 2 cents.

I just read an AP article...
Key quote:
The offseason acquisition of center fielder Torii Hunter gives the Angels a logjam in the outfield. Guerrero and veterans Garret Anderson and Gary Matthews Jr. also are in contention for spots.
Scioscia hinted that all four could see time as DH.
"Those four bats have to be in the lineup," he said. "All those guys are going to put winning ahead of anything. They know the situation. They've been where we are now."
Entire Story:

Sounds like "they know the situation" and therefore nobody is complaining. Maybe Vladdy misunderstood the question and thought he was being suggested as an everyday DH. Just a guess on my part.

Vlad Speaks:
"I played with Orlando a long time, and I'm used to Orlando," Guerrero said. "I think Aybar will do a good job. Orlando is a veteran; Aybar is coming up. But he has the tools to do the same thing as Orlando. I'm hoping Aybar is going to get the opportunity to play every day. Seeing him play in the Dominican in the playoffs ... he can do a good job."
'Nuff Said.

I understand.
My point is that Vlad can get more than most simply by stating his desires.
It's interesting. We would all suspect from what we see on TV that Izturis also has a very good relationship with Vlad (everyone except Vincente Padilla does), but this makes it clear whom Vlad supports. Unless Wood literally kills the ball in Spring Training, Aybar's probably going to get the gig.

Again....my point:
It's already been stated that Aybar's gonna get a shot. That's all he or Vlad can ask for. However, from my perspective, there seems to be a powerful personal connection between Vlad and Erick which I do not believe will be frivolously overlooked.

While we're on the subject of SS:
He also said Brandon Wood has the defensive ability to be a Gold Glove 3B or a decent major league SS. After all this time, no one should expect manager Mike Scioscia to move his favorite Chone Figgins off third, but Erick Aybar and Macier Izturis do not possess any one skill that would prevent Wood from winning the job in March.
This was from XM Radio's MLB Homeplate.
