PETER BOURJOS WAR Angels 2010 Top Ten #6

In looking back on the Angels 2010 season, rookie Peter Bourjos shined with the glove at an historic rate (1.7 WAR on defense), giving fans hope for the future.

OK, this is the part where I strenuously object to relying solely on WAR when evaluating a player's Hall of Fame candidacy.

Rob Neyer | Sweetspot Great read as Rob describes the difficulty with electing GMs, the problem with politics on the committee, and the limitation of WAR when used to look at potential candidates of specific positions. Maybe it's time for a positional break-out of the HoF-Zone?

Can you spot the five guys NOT in the Hall of Fame? It's easy, I separated 'em for ya. :) Here's the full post about guys elected to the Hall of Fame primarily for their defense. Guys like Brooks Robinson, Ozzie Smith, Bobby Wallace, John Ward, and Bid McPhee stand up as definite HOFers, with many others worthy of debate (and a couple aren't worth any debate at all). I almost made it through the whole post without comparing some HOFers to our friends Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Bobby Grich, Alan Trammell, and Ron Santo. Almost.

1984 Cy Young. I forgot to put it on the graph, but the x-axis is WAR. And that is courtesy of some cool guy named Rally. By the by, this is when Rick Sutcliffe went 16-1 with Chicago and won. He was -0.2 with Cleveland to start the year. Order of finish: Rick Sutcliffe, 24 first place votes, 120 points Dwight Gooden, 0 first place votes, 45 points Bruce Sutter, 0 first place votes, 33 points Joaquin Andujar, 0 first place votes, 12 points Rich Gossage, 0 first place votes, 3 pionts Mario Soto, 0 first place votes, 2 points

Graph of the Day: Alou Family WAR

Four Alous, two good careers, one awful career.

Rally updates his Historical Wins Above Replacement back to 1871

As Rally notes, the pre-Retrosheet (pre-1955) defensive stuff is kinda shaky, but this is still super-cool.

Rally's Historical Pitching WAR

He already did the position players, now here are the pitchers. You are a witness to greatness.
