Slate online recently asked an interesting question - why are upset teams in baseball so disdained?

L I N K -to- S T O R Y

I'm of the belief that a champion needs to survive in a long series (i.e. the regular season) and then rise to the occasion of short series pressure (the playoffs). So many fans seem to sneer at the notion of the less-thenabsolute-best teams being involved in the outcome of the championship, let alone winning it all.
