Well it was just such a good run of victories the team has been on that a little shutout in Baltimore doesn't mean a thang, now does it?
How does one gage badness in a micro-era where so much is going right? When a team of players stand out as having awful nights together, how can we single out a not-especially horrible performance for blame when these guys are all kicking ass with regularity?
It (blaming our heroes) is a tough job but someone's got to do it. We sucked tonight and if this game were to have happened in October it would be a regional crisis and everyone would be wailing like they had just sat on a tender undiscovered hemmorhoid.
Willits was 0-2 with a walk, but ganked a fly to Centerfield that figured centrally in the Orioles' scoring. So would we have just lost 1-0 instead? Not so blameworthy...
Kotchman was 0 for 4 with 2 left on base and left a runner in scoring position with 2 out. The latter situation also afflicted Izturis, who was 0 for 3 with a walk. Garret's LOB was 3, but he was 1 for 4 with a double.
Napoli grounded into a double play as well as striking out - perhaps this would be under the radar in an ordinary game, but in this frustrating match of almost nothing happening, it becomes a glaring welt on the ass of failure.
Someone has to get the blame... seriously, who do you think should get the blame?
