Jered Weaver Shutout Dominates Tribe, Angels Win 3-0

Final Score in Cleveland: Angels: 3, Indians 0

Save for a clutch Howie Kendrick single that scored 2 baserunners, it was all Jered Weaver Wednesday night in Cleveland. The budding Angels ace scattered 7 hits and a walk while striking out 3 for his 2nd career shutout. It was the 4th complete game of his career, all of which have come this season. Weaver threw 116 pitches and a gassed Angels bullpen got a night off - not until the 9th inning did a reliever begin warming up ... and he was not needed.

Catcher Mike Napoli helped Jered forget about his start last Friday in Baltimore, easily the worst of his career. Having thrown less than 50 pitches might have helped Weaver's stamina as he had an effortless, uneventful 1-2-3 1st inning, which has historically been his most problematic inning.

Meanwhile Cleveland Lefty Jeremy Sowers had a no hitter going into the 5th inning, but a walk to Mike Napoli led to a ringing Kendry Morales double. Batting from the right side, Morales belted one off the left field wall to make it 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Howie Kendrick followed with a garden variety single up the middle to plate both runners. An Erick Aybar Bunt Single and a Chone Figgins sacrifice bunt paved the way for a Bobby Abreu groundout to score the 3rd Angel run. A Torii Hunter single in the 6th would be the only other hit in the game for the Halos.
