Saunders retired just five of the 12 batters he faced against the Texas Rangers on Friday night, his shortest start of the season. Saunders gave up back-to-back home runs to Josh Hamilton and Hank Blalock in the first inning and five runs in all before leaving with tightness in his throwing shoulder. After the game, Saunders was placed on the disabled list and right-hander Jose Arredondo was recalled from Class AAA Salt Lake.
