Maicer Izturis Clutch Delivers Angels Win Over Texas

Final Score in Arlington: Angels 3 Rangers 2

Alberto Callaspo drove in two runs but Fernando Rodney denied Dan Haren the Win with yet another gutless outing on the mound. Scott Downs picked up the pieces, though, and got his first W wearing a Halo when Maicer Izturis hit a clutch line drive with two outs in the 9th inning against former Teammate Darren Oliver to drive in Jeff Mathis - yes, Mathis had actually gotten on base in the game, twice in fact, once when it mattered most. Jordan Walden struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 9th inning for his 7th Save.

The Rangers offense was not as coked up inside the white lines as their reputation would imply. They are now one and a half games behind the Angels with the rubber game of the series played in the Arlington little league field tomorrow. They are not going to have a season of Fernando Rodneys getting their hopes up late in games like today, so when they cannot make their few clutch hits count in their homeriffic haven, imagine little men like Mighty Maicer destroying and burying Ron Washington's club before Josh Hamilton even has time to tweak another muscle.
