Final Score in Kansas City: Angels 10, Royals 8
After surrendering six runs in the first two innings, Ervin Santana threw four frames of shutout ball with ample baserunners but serviceable shutout results.
As the Angels offense tried to dig out of the hole and just when daylight appeared close, reliever Rich Thompson destroyed hope all over again, allowing two late runs with two outs in the 7th inning to make a 6-5 ballgame a three run deficit for the Halos. But homeruns by Mark Trumbo and Peter Bourjos got the ANgels to within shouting distance and an inning and a third of scoreless relief by Kevin Jepsen put the star-crossed reliever in position to benefit from a coming W when Joakim Soria served up a cookie to Torii Hunter.
It was Torii's second HR of the day, and it set the good guys ahead for good with one out and one on in the 9th. Soria later saw an error lead to insurance for the Angels and seal his fate with a big L.
Fernando Rodney shut the door after Jordan Walden threw 37 pitches in his difficult Save in Minnesota on Sunday.
