This is the first in our series of getting to know the guys at Halos Heaven who deliver the goods for you. We start with my co-pilot, Jim Gardner, aka WiHalofan, the "Wi" standing for "Wisconsin" where Jim lives. Jim co-hosts LunchTime Halo Talk, our live internet radio show here each Tuesday and took the time to answer these in-depth questions.
WHO WAS THE FIRST ANGELS PLAYER YOU DECIDED WAS "YOUR GUY" ?
WIHALOFAN: Ken McMullen, but only because during the first Angel game I saw in-person he got into an argument with the third base umpire. I thought it was neat that some one would argue with a person of authority.
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CURRENT ANGEL AND WHY?
WIHALOFAN: Joel Pineiro because I like the non-flashy player who goes out and gets the job done...most of the time. I like the players who have to work at being good, not those who seem to have it come easy. I've always liked the "Brian Downings" more than the "Reggie Jacksons".
WHICH SIDE OF THE "STATS VS CHEMISTRY" DEBATE ARE YOU ON AND WHY?
WIHALOFAN: 60% - Stats, 40% - Chemistry. I believe stats are facts. Unarguable truths. But in my heart I know that when people are involved in anything, facts don't always matter.
PICK A SONG FOR THE ANGELS TO REPLACE BUTTERCUP WITH?
WIHALOFAN: "More Today Than Yesterday" by Spiral Staircase
IF YOU WERE IN CHARGE OF THE ANGELS SUMMER CONCERT SERIES, NAME THE PERFORMER YOU BREAK THE BANK TO GET...
WIHALOFAN: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham
SAY SOMETHING BALLSY / CONTROVERSIAL FOR US TO REMEMBER YOU BY...
WIHALOFAN: I really, REALLY hate to admit this, but if I weren't an Angels fan I'd be a fan of the Red Sox. Not Red Sox Nation, but of the ballclub. I like many of their players (Pedroia, Youkalis, Ellsbury, and now Crawford and Gonzalez). They have a smart GM and front office who always seem to make good deals and signings. Although I've never been to Fenway and I've heard it sucks and smells in person, I like the idea of a team playing on a field that is 100 years old. Being able to see pictures from the 1920's and 1930's that include players from my team would be cool. I used to find doing genealogy stuff interesting, so I like the fact you can trace players back to before I was born...Ted Williams begat Carl Yastrzemski who begat Jim Rice who begat Mike Greenwell. From their history (except for them being the last team to integrate), to their ballpark and their uniforms, the franchise says "Old School"...and I like that. But I love the Angels, so the Sox can suck it.
