All of the stats sites say that Angels 1B Mark Trumbo is average and while he will not be mistaken for that other Mark T who played 1B for the Angels in 2008 for 54 games, the stat sites do not scold him for any bad glove mojo.
And yet my eyes are starting to tell me that the guy is still pretty raw at the cold corner. Five errors on the season does not do justice to the bullets down the line that have been visiting right field grass instead of Salt Lake graduate leather.
Perhaps after the short Mark Teixeira stay and the gold glove love of Darin Erstad, perhaps we are the Los Angeles spoiled fans of Anaheim when it comes to the defense at a position that many a meat-head has been stashed in hopes of following in the footsteps of Mark McGwire's backne. Has anyone else noticed this? Is Howie Kendrick shifting to 1B in the late innings a feasible solution or do we just go with thunderbat driving in two runs for the one his swiss cheese glove seems to give up every few games?
