2009 - A 5-2 Yankees victory and the Angels are eliminated in the ALCS.
Joe Saunders started this must-win game, trying to force a game 7. The Angels actually had the lead, initially, A hot Yankee-killing Jeff Mathis doubled to lead off the third inning. He scored on a Bobby Abreu single off of Andy Pettitte.
Saunders was good until he loaded the bases in the fourth inning and a Johnny Damon single scored two. When he walked in a run two batters later, Darren Oliver took over on the mound.
Oliver and Ervin Santana kept thinsg scoreless into the top of the eighth when the Angels offense got a run back. Vlad Guerrero singled home Chone Figgins. Mariano Rivera entered the game and got Kendrys Morales to ground out with the tying run on base.
In the bottom of the frame Scott Kazmir relieved Santana with runners on and ...in a taste of things to come, Kazmir gutlessly blew the thing open, allowing two more runs. The Angels went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth and a magical season was gone, two games shy of the AL Pennant.
