With December's Rule 5 Draft looming, the Angels added three minor leaguers to their 40-Man roster: Reliever Ryan Brasier, Relief pitcher Brandon Sisk (acquired earlier this month from the Royals in the Ervin Santana trade) and outfielder Travis Witherspoon.
Like all great scoops, Alden Gonzalez broke this story on the Angels site.
There may be room for Brasier and Sisk on the 25-Man roster if either proves himself consistent in the pen. Jerry Dipoto is going to give Mike Butcher's bullpen more facelifts than Zsa Zsa Gabor if that is what it takes.
The Bullpen now looks like this:
Ernesto Frieri (closer?)
Scott Downs
Kevin Jepsen
Jordan Walden
Nick Maronde
...and in case you forgot about any of these...
Ryan Brasier
David Carpenter
Bobby Cassevah
Steve Geltz
Michael Kohn
Brandon Sisk
Andrew Taylor
..and there are once and former starting pitchers who might make the pen...
Barry Enright
Brad Mills
Garrett Richards
Jerome Williams
The Rule Five draft might see the departure of some once-vaunted prospects. Check out Alden's CHECKLIST ARTICLE.
The Angels 40-Man roster now stands at 34.
