Is Hank Conger a Valuable Trade Chip for Angels?

Russell Martin gets two years, $17 Million from the Pirates... are surplus Catchers suddenly worth their weight in gold?

Russell Martin just got two years and $17 Million from the Pirates... are surplus Catchers suddenly worth their weight in gold?

If the Pirates can reel in Russell Martin with $8 Million Plus a year for two years and Mike Napoli can take his time with the free agent market, what is a cost-controlled 25-year old switch hitting catcher with a power left-handed stroke worth on the open market?

If you can answer that with any acumen, consider that said catcher, the Angels former first-round trophy Hank Conger, may have even more value as a trade chip. The Angels can take on salary - could Conger bring in a high-salaried pitcher from a club that feels it has a surplus of starters but nobody to catch what they throw?

With all the talk of Jordan Walden being available, could a package of Walden and Conger be something that might deliver James Shields to Anaheim?

Would you make that deal?

Actually gold is about $24,000 per pound, meaning that Hank Conger is worth about $4.8 Million if he is worth his weight in gold. Is Russell Martin worth 190% of Hank Conger?
