Tuesday Halolinks: Troy Glaus Wants To Play Again, Bill James Projections

After taking two seasons off, former Angel third baseman Troy Glaus feels ready to make a comeback.

  • Huge news kids, the Angels signed another big bat: Angels add depth with veteran infielder Luis Rodriguez - angels.com. "Rodriguez is a 32-year-old switch-hitter who hit .238 with a .314 on-base percentage while slugging .324 in 407 Minor League games from 2005-11. The native of Venezuela, listed at 5-foot-9, spent 2012 with the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma, batting .296 with a .389 on-base percentage, 12 homers and 51 RBIs in 102 games." Let's see, a 32-year old, switch-hitting Venezuelan who can play the infield. Maicer Izturis?
  • This is very interesting (no, not the Youkilis stuff): Sweeny: Shocked To Hear Youkilis Is A Yankee - CBS New York. "Retired after the 2010 season, Glaus is actually still younger than A-Rod by one year. Glaus, who hit 320 home runs in his 13-year career (and 7 more in the 2002 postseason, named World Series MVP for the Angels), reached out to the Yankees and expressed an interest in coming back if the team was interested. The downside was that he hadn’t played in two years, but the upside was his banged up body felt much better after not playing in two years." I doubt it will happen, but wouldn't be cool if Glaus got a spring training invite and we got the chance to see him in a few line-ups with Trout, Pujols, Hamilton, Trumbo, and Morales? How awesome would it be if he actually made the team??
  • Since there's not much news to link to, here's something I was going to post in an article this week. Instead, I'll post it here so we have something other than Glaus-porn to talk about. FanGraphs (FanGraphs Baseball) has Bill James projections for players and below are the 2013 number his system projects the Angels' line-up to put up. The projections forecast the Halos to have four players to hit 30 or more home runs next season. If those four players do manage to hit 30+ home runs this year, they'll join the 2000 Angels (Garret Anderson, Troy Glaus, Tim Salmon, Mo Vaughn) as the only Halo club to have 4 players hit 30 or more home runs in the same season.

Add in Morales' 20+ home runs, and the Angels would boast five players who hit 20 or more home runs.
