Opening Day (April 1, 2013) is 96 days away. We are counting down the 100 Walk Off Home Runs in Angels franchise history. Today we look at #96, Bobby Abreu beats the Royals in extras...
August 11, 2010 - A Wednesday getaway game against the Royals ended up going ten innings. Jered Weaver had matched KC's ace Zack Greinke with 1 ER in 8 IP but the offense was stingy. Kevin Jepsen pitched a scoreless ninth and Brian Fuentes matched that in the top of the tenth.
In the bottom of the tenth, Jesse Chavez relieved Blake Wood and got Reggie Willits to ground out to 1B. Bobby Abreu planted the 1-1 pitch from Chavez into the RF seats and the Angels had won the game 2-1.
There were four walk home runs hit in the 2010 season at the Big A, this was the only one not against the Mariners. It was the first of two Abreu would hit in 2010, his only two walk off home runs for the Angels. It was the 96th walk off home run in franchise history.
