Angels Bullpen Drops Another Lead, Lose to Royals 6-4

Angels starter C.J. Wilson pitched six scoreless innings today but the bullpen is still a "work in progress" as they drop a 6-4 decision to the Kansas City Royals.

Wilson threw 75 pitches today while utilizing his curveball, slider and using fewer cutters. He allowed zero walks while striking out five. All while staked to an early lead as Mark Trumbo, Alexi Amarista and Peter Bourjos would score in the first and fifth innings respectively.

Jordan Walden entered the game in the 7th inning and was erratic from the get-go. He faced six batters, allowed five hits, four runs (all earned), a walk, no strikeouts in 0.1 IP. He would exit the game, leaving a runner at first and giving the Royals their first lead of the game.

Jeremy Berg would fill in for Walden and get two groundouts to end the inning but only after the damage had been done.

Vernon Wells hit a not-useless HR in the top of the 7th inning to tie it up at 4-4. This would be the final piece of offense we would see today.

Rich Thompson pitched the bottom of the 7th and pitched a remarkably clean frame, needing only 11 pitches to get the fly out and two groundouts to retire the side in order.

Rookie Ryan Braiser takes over in the 8th inning and would give a single to Chris Getz (who would advance to 2B on a wild pitch) and strikeout the following batter before being removed from the game due to an injury. Daniel Tillman took over and would allow a double and single, scoring two runs, before getting the final two outs.
