Angels Spring Into Action

YES!
YES!

Despite starting pitcher Garrett Richards allowing 2 runs in 2 IP, the Angels looked great in a 6-2 win over the White Sox in their first Spring game at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Alberto Callaspo had a sun scoring double, Albert Pujols had a double and 3 total bases, Jorge Cantu had two run scoring singles and Kole Calhoun hit a double.

Pitching-wise Kevin Jepsen struck out two palehose batters in 1 IP and AJ Schugel pitched a scoreless 9th inning, striking out one and flashing a wicked curveball. Of all people, it was former Angel minor leaguer of the year Dallas McPherson going down swinging against the 22-year old hurler.

On defense, Alexi Amarista looked fabulous with the glove and retro-new-wave with a pair of white framed silver-lensed reflective sunglasses, his red Angels cap easily mistaken for a Devo-like flower pot hat to those of us who form a certain generation. Maicer Izturis got his first start of the spring, had a sac fly RBI in the game and looked in midseason form fielding at short.
