UPDATE: Shaikin Tweet: Pitcher Kevin Jepsen sent to AAA to make room for Frieri on the 25-Man roster.

Say goodbye to Alexi Amarista and hello to Ernesto Frieri. Here is my analysis...

The Angels acquired relief pitcher Ernesto Frieri on Thursday in exchange for AAA infielder Alexi Amarista and A-ball pitcher Donn Roach. Amarista spent part of 2011 and one game of 2012 with the Angels. Roach was drafted twice by the Angels and was off to a great start as a starting pitcher for the Inland Empire 66ers of the California League. His specialty is getting groundball outs.

Twitter is flooded with pictures LIKE THIS of the amiable Fireri in the Padres clubhouse conducting his own media interviews of teammates during the postgame media crush. On the field he has a K/9 of over 11 and a WHIP of about 1.1 and while his flyball proclivities in pitcher-friendly Petco Park might scare some folks, Anaheim benefits flyball pitchers like Jered Weaver just fine.

After signing Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar to long-term deals, General Manager Jerry Dipoto dealt away some extra infield depth in the hopes of securing veteran bullpen help. Frieri is under club control through 2017.
