Final Score in Anaheim: Diamondbacks 0 Angels 2
The Angels continued their pitching dominance over the Diamondbacks with a fantastic performance by 6th starter Garrett Richards. He pitched 8+ innings of shutout baseball, scattering 4 hits, allowing 4 walks and striking out 5. Ernesto Frieri put this game on ice in the 9th, retiring all three batters he faced for his 7th save of the season. Diamondbacks ace Ian Kennedy went the distance for the complete game loss.
Albert Pujols connected for his 10th HR of the season, a blast to the bullpen out in left-center field to give the Angels a 1-0 lead in the 4th. Mike Trout narrowly missed hitting a HR in the 7th inning but instead had an RBI double to left that would score Peter Bourjos who was given the start in CF today.
The Angels are winning ballgames with superior pitching and defense but you have to wonder how much longer they can continue this way. Only 11 runs scored (including one shutout) in the past six games with the Angels winning four of their last six and 10 of 15 games this month. Next up on this homestand will be the San Francisco Giants for three games.
Happy Father's Day everyone!!
UPDATE: Hank Conger optioned back down to AAA to make room for the return of Bobby Wilson.
