Jered Weaver Returns For Six Pack Victory

SIX Angels drove in a run apiece in Wednesday night's series clincher against the Giants. Jered Weaver pitched SIX innings of shutout ball, allowing 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. He was just under his target of 80 pitches thrown with 78 in his return to action after three weeks on the disabled list. The first run of the game was a solo homerun in the bottom of the second inning by number SIX Alberto Callaspo.

With the 3-0 game still in a "Save situation" mode in the bottom of the 8th inning, Kendrys Morales and Mark Trumbo hit solo homerun blasts off of former Angels pitcher Shane Loux to give the closer the night off and hand the 9th to Jordan Walden. When the leverage was high, though, Jason Isringhausen and Scott Downs managed a scoreless 7th and 8th respectively off of a Giants lineup that had scored ten runs off of Angels pitching in the first two games of this interleague series.

In postgame television analysis on Fox Sports West one analyst said the most impressive thing about Weaver's start was that it looked effortless and that the 78 pitches were done with great ease. Of all people to fixate on getting the most out of doing the least, Angels fans will not be surprised that those words came from Angel great Garret Anderson (not making this up, GA was heaping on the accolades!) now making impressive appearances as a suit-and-tie commentator on the telly.
