Angels Walk Over Indians in Jered Weaver Win

Howie Kendrick scored a run on a sac fly ad hit a solo HR - hist first roundtripper in two months - but the story in the Angels 3-0 victory over the Indians in Cleveland was pitching; Jered Weaver and Scott Downs combined on a shutout while Ubaldo Jimenez looked unbeatably dominant save for a few pitches during most of the game.

But the Angels made him pay and some questionable managing strategy took the precision pitcher out of his mechanical rhythm and cost the Tribe dearly. Jimenez was asked to intentionally walk two of three batters, Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo, to load the bases in the top of the eighth inning. The former Rockies all star then walked Alberto Callaspo, forcing in the third run of the game.

That was huge when Weaver allowed consecutive singles to start the bottom of the frame. Downs came in to relieve the Angels ace and recorded six outs for the Save. Behind the plate, a clean-shaven Bobby Wilson guided the CERA magic into his glove in his 35th start at catcher this year. He even had one of the Angels eight hits.

Rookie Mike Trout, a late scratch from the lineup with a bruised right pinky, came into the game as a pinch runner and stayed in the game for two innings in left field.
