Nick Maronde Named Cal League Pitcher of the Week After 13 Scoreless Innings

San Bernardino, CA - A near no-hitter was not enough to earn the 66ers a win earlier this week, but it did get Inland Empire 66ers starter a second California League Pitcher of the Week award. Maronde's numbers on the week spanning July 16-22 were a (1-0) record, 0.00 ERA, three hits allowed over 13 innings, a .071 batting average against and 16 strikeouts with just five walks.

Maronde started the week with seven no hit innings in Stockton on July 17th. While there was a spectacular catch made in centerfield by Randal Grichuk to keep the no hitter in line, Maronde truly dominated the game. He struck out 10 Ports with just three walks on the outing. The 66ers unfortunately fell to the Ports in extra innings, but Maronde had put forth one of the most dominating 66ers pitching performances since Marlon Arias threw a no hitter, May 9th, 2007.

On the road trip finale in San Jose Maronde allowed a single to the first batter he faced but still dominated the Giants for six innings. The left-hander did not allow a run in six innings of work, scattering three hits and two walks through the evening while tallying six strikeouts.

Since coming off the disabled list Maronde has not allowed an earned run. He has a 2-0 record in July with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings and opponents are batting .100 (6/60) over his three starts. Prior to landing on the DL Maronde won the California League Pitcher of the Week Award for his 12 strikeout performance against High Desert on April 27th. That makes Maronde the only two time pitcher of the week award winner this season in the California League.

Maronde's and Inland Empire return to San Manuel Stadium Tuesday, July 24th, to take on rival Rancho Cucamonga. The game is scheduled for 7:05, and fans can tune in for the broadcast on AM 1050 KCAA beginning at 6:55 for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre Game Show. The game can also be heard on www.66ers.com or through the 66ers new I-Phone App.
