No Firecracker: Ervin Santana is Angels Dud

Ervin Santana cemented his status as the albatross of the Angels pitching staff in a terrible 8 Earned Run 1.1 inning outing on the Fourth of July.

On a day that started with Dan Haren admitting he has a back problem that will require medical examination, Ervin Santana managed to pass Dan as the ugliest pitcher on the Anegls staff. With Jerome Williams rehabbing in the minors after suffering an asthma attack after a subpar pitching performance, Ervin managed to make Williams seem like a lock in the rotation after the All Star break. And prospect Garrett Richards has gone from a starter in AAA to the #3 man in the rotation in record time.

The Angels scored the same three runs they scored when they beat the Indians on Monday night. The offense is all exciting and sells jerseys and is getting national press but in the last twelve hours the Angels have basically lost two starting pitchers. It is not official, in fact, they will most likely each be in the rotation after the break, but there is a sense of dread at their prolonged presence. At least Haren might get well. Santana is headed toward DFA-ville after his recent garbage appearances.
