In the top of the ninth inning in a 2-2 tie, Ernesto Frieri had to deal with a pinch running speedster on 1B with nobody out. Ernasty got out of it by retiring the next three batters with the fast Quintin Barry stranded at 2B. The Angels mirrored the situation in the bottom of the frame with speedy Peter Bourjos brought in to run for Kendrys Morales. Octavio Dotel only had to get two outs. Howie Kendrick hit a sharp liner to right for one of them. Tigers fans are still waiting for the second. Erick Aybar hit a dribbler that slow-fielding Miguel Cabrera waddled up to but did not field to move the winning run up to second base. Mike Scioscia brought in switch-hitting Alberto Callaspo to bat from the left side in favor of the slumping Mark Trumbo. A basehit past the shortstop to drive in Bourjos ended the TnT era in Anaheim.
