C.J. Cron Batting Cleanup In Futures Game Today!

New, comments

First Pitch is at 11 AM on ESPN-2

Arkansas Travelers 1B C.J. Cron has been named the starting 1B for the Major League Futures Game. The game is played Sunday afternoon at Citi Field as the first part of the 2013 All Star Game Festivities. The game is broadcast on ESPN-2.

Back in 2010 we got our first view of Mike Trout and Hank Conger in Angel Stadium when that year's Futures Game featured them as they, representing the U.S. team of prospects, faced off against "The World" team.

Nobody remembers who won then or who wins now, but a player standing out in the game sets up a narrative of inevitability among fans of his team.

Cron was the Angels First Round Pick (17th overall) in the 2011 draft. He skipped Low-A after a season in rookie ball at Orem, playing for the High-A 66ers in 2012 and with the Travs for the first half of 2013. HE hit 27 HR for the 66ers last season but only has eight to start off 2013. Not too bad considering that Arkansas is a pitchers park extraordinaire.

He is batting .287 with a .332 On Base Percentage and a .440 Slugging Percentage.

In 1,081 Professional Plate Appearances he has batted .293 /.335 OBP /.507 Slugging with 48 Home Runs and 114 Extra Base Hits.
