Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 3 Athletics 0
Jason Vargas was the story in Anaheim tonight. The final home night game of the 2013 season was a treat for the Angels faithful that came out to see the team under the lights. They will complete their home games tomorrow at 12:35 against these same division champion A's and leave for four games on the road with a losing record at the Big A - the first time since the 2001 season.
No Oakland player reached second base. Vargas allowed four hits and one walk, striking out five and doing it all in 110 pitches. He becomes the 44th man to record at least two shutouts in an Angels uniform.
The Angels bats did the job with Howie Kendrick homering in the first inning - and for the second night in a row!
Josh Hamilton had a big hit in the form of a bases-loaded bloop single to score two more in the third inning and that was all Vargas would need. Mike Trout was hitless in the middle of a 9 for 54 slump. He struck out twice resting as the DH tonight. Maybe he will be bright and shiny at the finale tomorrow.
