The Angels wasted exactly zero time in the offseason picking up their option for closer Huston Street. The $7 Million he will be paid next year is a paltry sum if he delivers anything close to his 2014 performance on the mound and under pressure.
Street saved 41 games in 2014, two-thirds of the season spent in San Diego and then dealt to the Halos along with reliever Trevor Gott for four minor league prospects.
Well lookie there, Gott was just named to the Arizona Fall League All Star Game, who knew that Jerry Dipoto could pick out diamonds int he rough along with no-brainer moves like an all star closer.
The Angels also closed the books on Sean Burnett, buying out his 2015 option for $500,000 - ending the pitching disaster that was Decemebr 2013. In the span of a week the Angels traded Jordan Walden for Tommy Hanson and signed Burnett, Ryan Madson and Joe Blanton. There was no return at all on that and a lot of money spent.
Huston Street turned 31 on August 2 so the chances of consistency here are a pretty safe bet.
