Vinnie Pestano Remains in Angels Pen

Halos Avoid Arbitration with Righty Reliever.

The Angels had ten arbitration eligible players this morning but only have nine to consider now.

The team signed Right Handed relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano to a one year deal for $1.15 Million, a raise from $975,000 in 2014. Consider it a hometown discount from the pride of Anaheim's Canyon High School and a Cal State Fullerton Titan as well. But being the first of ten arbitration-eligible Angels to make a deal, it was a way for Pestano to assist in deciding his own fate for the season. With four other righty relievers headed to arbitration, Vinnie must have realized Dipoto's offer was one he couldn't refuse.

Although he threw less than ten innings for the team after being acquired late in the season, Pestano was immediately a favorite of his paisano manager and was even included on the postseason roster. He turns thirty yeas old a week after pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training.

Jerry Dipoto reinvented the Halo bullpen on the fly during the season last year - it appears that with this move and the acquisition of Cesar Ramos from the Rays last week that he is trying to get the job done before the season starts this time around.
