Angels Trade Howie Kendrick to Dodgers

New, comments

What the heck?

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Angels have traded 2B Howie Kendrick to the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Andrew Heaney. The young lefty was acquired earlier in the day by the former Brooklyn franchise from the Miami Marlins as part of the Dee Gordon trade.

Alden Gonzalez made a tweet about it almost immediately at trade confirmation:

So the hole at the 2B for the Angels will be quite something to fill.

But the young lefty is an attractive piece - he is just two months older than Mike Trout. He was drafted in the 24th round in the smae draft as Trout, 2009, but opted to go to Oklahoma State University. He was then selected in the first round, the ninth pick overall, by the Marlins in 2012.

Heaney was ranked the #30 prospect in baseball prior to the 2014 season by both Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus.

Howie Kendrick will be a free agent after the 2015 season. Heaney is eligible for free agency after the 2021 season, when he will be thirty years old.

There were some reports of other players coming to or going form eitehr team but it is a one player swap:

Wow. I'm still a little numb.
