Carrying One More Pitcher...

The Angels called up pitcher Mike Morin from Triple-A leagues to join them in New York tonight. Morin will be in uniform at Yankee Stadium for the nationally televised contest.

Outfielder Brennan Boesch is being sent back to AAA Salt Lake which means the Halos will be going with an extra pitcher. There wasn't an obvious arm to send down and Boesch seems the most expendable relative to the immediate needs of the team - they will board a flight home and be in uniform tomorrow night against the Indians.

Morin is 22 years old (but older than Mike Trout by three months) and began the season in AA. He struck out six batters in five innings there before being promoted. At Salt Lake he had a terrible outing against Tacoma where he allowed four earned runs in one-third inning pitched. That yielded an ERA of 108.00 ...but it has been smooth sailing since: he has allowed no earned runs in four subsequent appearances, striking out five in two and two-thirds Innings pitched.

If the bullpen is not too taxed in the next two games, expect a Matt Long call up to back up J.B. Shuck and Collin Cowgill.
