Final Score in Anaheim: Angels 4 Royals 3
Down 3-0 early the Angels rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, chasing old teammate Jason Vargas and needing a close close replay examination at home plate to keep it tied. But they would not be denied a comeback and Catcher Chris Iannetta broke the 3-3 tie with a solo HR in the bottom of the eighth.
Garrett Richards had one problem inning, allowing three runs and throwing 36 pitches in a "peck-away" top of the third. But he rebounded nicely from that gutless balking session and threw seven strong "Quality Start" innings. Michael Kohn - the only Halo reliever not used in last night's thirteen inning defeat, pitched a scoreless top of the eighth and got the W after Iannetta tattooed a Tim Collins fastball 340 feet over the waist-high Left Field Angel Stadium of Anaheim wall in the bottom of the frame.
The other big hit of the day was a two-out, two-run, bases-loaded single by David Freese, scoring Raul Ibañez and Mike Trout to tie up the game. Trout had doubled down the line to score Iannetta, who had led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit.
The top of the ninth was, oh, slightly nervous, with Ernesto Frieri capping two scoreless innings last night with a 26-pitch nail-biter that saw a one-out double and a runner on third with two outs - shades of Donnie Moore on a Sunday afternoon but not that pressure in May and whew - a popout ends the game with a Save for ErNasty.
The Angels go 7-3 on a ten game home stand and now hit the road for ten against Seattle, Oakland and Houston. The first of four begins at 1:15 PM tomorrow afternoon - meaning the faithful will watch it under the light of the Halo and oh my god is that Adam Kennedy announcing on the postgame show? Wow... It's getting better all the time...
13-4 in our last 17 games!
