The Angels have signed their third round pick from June's draft, RHP Chris Ellis out of Ole Miss, a college in Mississippi also known as the University of Mississippi that brands itself as being "Old". He pitched for them in the recent College World Series tournament. He will turn 22 in late September and will be donning the uniform of the Orem Owlz, or favorite team's Rookie Pioneer League affiliate.

MLB.com's Jim Callis reports that Ellis signed with the team for a $575,000 bonus. Ellis was the 88th pick in the draft and his slot money was $612,800, so the assumption is he took a little less dough in exchange for a spot in Orem (instead of the Arizona Rookie League at the team's complex in Tempe) and an invite to Spring Training (sort of an ego-stroking gift to high-round prospects who play nice).

Ellis touches 95 on his fastball which Callis says has "life". His secondary Changeup is described in the same report as his best secondary pitch and is called "solid". Scout.Com's Angels correspondent Taylor Blake Ward oozes confidence in Ellis:

Here is video of him pitching in a Summer league at this time last year:

What do you think of him?

This signing leaves top pick Sean Newcomb as the final unsigned member out of first eleven picks of the Angels 2014 draft class. 12th round pick Jared Rucher is the highest unsigned player picked besides Newcomb. The Angels have signed 32 of their 40 picks.
