Kansas City Royals slugger Alex Gordon has an aching wrist he'd rather rest during the All Star Break and the Royals slugger has bowed out of the Midsummer Classic. The position player slot that was opened with this news has been filled by deserving Halo Short Stop Erick Aybar.
Aybar's only statistical competition this year was White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez. With the second city SS named to the team the only thing standing in Aybar's way was the biased vote of the casual fan. Derek Jeter will be playing in his last All Star game, starting at Short Stop. No word on how many innings the aging horse will play but the likelihood that the Angels star will play a few innings is pronounced and the AL would be wise to get Aybar in the game to lay down a bunt as a pinch hitter at least.
Aybar's 2.8 Offensive WAR and 0.8 Defensive WAR are far and away the highest rankings in either category by an everyday AL Short Stop this season so far.
Halos Heaven will be rooting him on from a Las Vegas Casino Sports Book theater during our annual Vegas All Star Week festivities. Be sure to join us there!
