Final Score in Arlington, Game 3: Angels 5 Rangers 2
WP: Jered Weaver (10-6) / LP: Miles Mikolas (0-2) / S: Joe Smith (14)
Last night, the Mariners and Athletics were battling in Seattle and the M's came out on top. Earlier in the night, though, the Angels were facing the Rangers in Arlington. The Rangers were shutout and the Halos moved up in the standings. Tonight, the same scenario is setup. Jered Weaver opened and was faced with a two run deficit early on in the game. But he got everything under control and coasted along through seven innings without allowing another run. The Rangers offense was silenced and it doesn't hurt that someone like Prince Fielder is out for a long time. Mike Morin came in to relieve Weaver in the eighth inning and Joe Smith closed the ballpark until tomorrow afternoon.
As mentioned earlier, Howie Kendrick's thirty-first birthday is today and the second baseman had a good birthday gift. Kendrick knocked in one run while hitting the ball three times. Not bad, HK-47. Other guys to bring in some runs included Albert Pujols, Hank Conger (twice), and David Freese. All but one of these runs came in the sixth inning when the bats finally switched on. It was all that was necessary to maintain the lead as the Rangers never even attempted a comeback.
As BigDaddyMatty noted in the comments, you can watch the Mariners and Athletics go to war on MLB Network tonight.
