FINAL IN ANAHEIM: Tiger 6, Angels 4
In what was supposed to be a match-up of team aces, the Angels' best pitcher wasn't able to hold a lead when it was given to him. After being staked to a 3-1 lead in the 5th inning, Garrett Richards was unable to shutdown the Tiger offense in the sixth.
The Angels scored three runs when Howie Kendrick leadoff the 5th with a double, followed by singles from David Freese, C.J. Cron, and Kole Calhoun to give the halos a two-run lead. However, Detroit's right-hander Max Scherzer struck out Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton to end the inning.
Richards was unable to hold the lead in the sixth inning, giving up four consecutive hits and three runs. The Tigers tacked on runs in the seventh and eighth, while the Angels also added a run in the 8th.
With the loss, the Angels fall 3 games behind the AL West division leading Oakland A's. Oakland won at home this afternoon, beating Houston by the score of 13-1. The Angels are now 3-4 during their 10-game homestand after going 32-15 at home prior to the All-Star break.
