Hector Santiago gave the Angels 5.1 IP of three-hit one-run ball and a suddenly impervious bullpen held the Tigers down until the offense could come back and take the lead in the game at 2-1.
Erick Aybar made the play of the season when a pickoff throw to 2B from Rick Porcello ended up in CF. Aybar looked over his shoulder as Gary DiSarcina held up the STOP sign from the 3B coaches box. Aybar spied a lollygagging Austin Jackson taking his time getting the ball to the infielder and our All Star Short Stop turned on the jets, sliding into home plate safely without a throw on what was scored a one-base error on Porcello and a Fielders Choice by Jackson. The box score will not make you chuckle as much as seeing a replay of that play will.
With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth and the bullpen of steel having gotten five outs from Mike Morin and three form Joe Smith, Mike Scioscia had Huston Street warming up and suddenly David Freese blasted a solo shot off of reliever Joba Chamberlain and Street had an undramatic** 1-2-3 ninth inning for the Save.
**Undramatic if you consider striking out Miguel Cabrera swinging when he represented the tying run in the ballgame.
