The Angels won their tenth straight home game as they completed a four-game sweep of the Astros in Anaheim. Garrett Richards pitched into the eighth inning, allowing only one run and striking out eleven Houston batters. He gave up six hits in 8.1 Innings Pitched.
Scoreless in the third, Albert Pujols got his first hit with the bases loaded of the season, a single to LF, to plate two runners. That was all Richards would need but they managed a few more, the third coming on the next batter when Jose Altuve erased Albert at 2B and got greedy for a DP, throwing to 1B and throwing the ball away.
Richards improved to 10-2 on the season. Joe Thatcher made his Angels debut in relief and looked more like Maggie Thatcher allowing the lefty he faced a base hit. Mike Morin came in and got two outs, including a dramatic diving infield popup. Fernando Salas pithe a scoreless ninth inning with two extra runs added in the eighth.
Kole Calhoun had three hits in the game including a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, which answered the only Astro run in the top of the frame. Calhoun also had a walk and two runs scored.
A team effort with the hurler as the leader. Break out the broomage and light up the Halo.
